Initial set up was easy!

Unable to connect to WIFI

Well, setup is not easy! I have the latest router from Comcast Xfinity and because it does not have a WPA button, I'm screwed. Back to the old USB I guess. I'd expect after paying $600 for this darned thing that it would have the latest and greatest technology. Apparently not.

I like the Epson FastFoto FF-680W Photo Scanner

I like this little photo scanner. It works without complaint, delivering digital image files quickly, and it handles the original photo prints in a graceful manner. I have probably run a thousand or more prints through the scanner as I write this, and so far with no difficulties. I expect to run perhaps another ten thousand through it in the process of bringing all my images into digital format, to be stored (as I make the copies) in Lightroom, where they can be easily recovered or visited. The scanner also will do documents. I have only done one of these. I did try storing the scanned document in Word format and that worked. The footprint of the scanner on my desk is small, which is good, although I do not intend to keep it on my desk indefinitely. I highly recommend choosing this scanner if you have a bunch of prints you want to retain in digital format.

Inconsistent at best on my Mac

Worked pretty good for awhile & I was able to scan in several hundred old photo prints. Problems started after I updated my OS. FastFoto application no longer works with my desktop Mac computer. Found a Fast Foto app for iPhone & iPad. That worked for awhile (I'd scan wirelessly to the iPad & then transfer from that device to my computer). Lately, the app/scanner freezes up after a few scans. Very frustrating. In theory it's a nice tool for digitizing old family photos. But very inconsistent. Spent most of the day & scanned only about 50 photos to my computer. Many scans seemed to work but then the software would freeze up & I'd get error messages. See the attached photos.

I considered an outside service to scan my family photos, but I got this scanner instead and probably saved over a thousand dollars. The scanner is fast and produces nice looking jpg images.

Scanner works well and is fast. With Mac, I had to connect with USB to get the Scan button on the scanner to work. Apparently the button is inoperative when using the wireless connection and Mac OS 12.3.1. Other than that, no problems.

Can this scan photos with deckled edges without using the carrier sheet?
Asked by: Preston
I have not tried to scan photos with deckled edges but here is my assessment. This scanner grabs the photo with central rollers and pulls it through the scanner exactly in that alignment with no real need for edges to be against guides. I feed in tiny receipts not touching the edge guides and how I feed them is how they are scanned. I think you could cut the edge with pinking shears and the scanner would pull photos through straight, with no alteration in alignment. The problem would be variation in thickness, not odd edges. The scanner will reject anything thicker than one layer of clear tape repair on the photo but not more. This prevents it from ever pulling two photos through and only scanning one.

Yes. It is multi voltage. You will need the correct plug adapter for the country you are in. For Hong Kong click this link: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/584832-REG/Travel_Smart_by_Conair_NWG14C_NWG_14C_Grounded_Adapter_Plug.html

Can I scan old thicker photos from the early 1900's?

No. This scanner scans fairly heavy photographic paper but no more than that. The scan path is not flat and you won't want to make a crease in an old print.

Asked by: Sylvia
I contacted Epson with your inquiry. They state that yes, the AC power adapter included with the purchase of the Epson FastFoto FF-680W Photo Scanner, MFR # B11B237201, is compatible for use in Hong Kong on the voltage/hertz output power used in Hong Kong. You would simply need a plug adapter to convert the included plug type to the plug type used in Hong Kong.
