question

I have a Sony camera model is HVR-V1U its a tape camera using 400 firewire to my apple MacBook Pro fully loaded. Which hard drive is the best one to work with in captures to my computer?
Asked by: Maria
I have not found a USB powered portable drive that will consistently give me the read/write speed I need for HD video production. For editing, I use all G-technology drives but they are powered off a wall unit and use USB 3.0 or Firewire 800 connections. I purchased this drive to back up my SDHC cards only. Works great as a back up drive but not fast enough for on-line editing. Also, I suggest you choose a G-drive with a minimum of two connectors so that you can loop through the drive. Not necessary for straight editing but you'll find you want that capability when downloading files, transfering files, etc.this drive has some type of hybrid connector that I'm not familiar with. It comes with a cable that connects to your computer using a USB but the connector on the drive I can't identify. Had one cable go bad but was ok because I purchased 3 of these drive and could use one of the other cables. If you had to purchase a new cable, I don't know what the connector would be ( or if one is even sold, it's not a common connector.)
