OWC Express 4M2 Reviews

Great unit, but loud.

I finally pulled the trigger on the 4M2 and loaded it up with EVO Plus 2TB drives. This is for video editing btw. It's small and it's fast, but it is crazy loud. I am not someone who is hyper sensitive about workstation noise, I have a high tolerance typically. This unit as others have mentioned is loud, especially for such a small unit. When I reorganize my workstation next time around, I will find a quieter location for this unit if possible.

Great little NVMe enclosure! Lets you run up to four (4) NVMe M.2 drives in a raid configuration. Very fast thunderbolt enclosure for a good price!

Got this for editing, threw 4 1TB WD Black SSD's in there in RAID 0 and the thing screams, 2300ish read and write. I hope they make and updated version that supports gen4 SSD's, I'm sure those will do like 7000-8000 read/write.

This enclosure with some NVME drives are blazing fast for edits in FCP. The softraid software that comes with it made it easy to set up in RAID 10

Got this to replace 4 hard drives in my 2008 MacPro when I got a new iMac. I added 4 Samsung 1TB 980 PCIe 3.0 x4 M.2 Internal SSD Drives to it. Two are configured as 0, and the other two are JBOD for data storage. So far, fast and reliable.

Fast, compact, but sadly, noisy

Functionally, this thing is great. Easy to install the SSD modules, SoftRaid simplifies setup and the transfer speeds are great. But the surprisingly loud fan is a drag. I would expect it to have a variable-speed fan, slowing down when the load it light; but it doesn't. I have a quiet studio and find the constant noise disturbing. I'll be contacting OWC to see if they have any ideas.

Fast, easy, convenient, and does the job!
