Peak Design Travel Backpack Overview

The sage-colored Travel Backpack from Peak Design has expansion zippers along its spacious main compartment so you can adjust the capacity from 30 to 45L. An interior zippered partition system forms an optional front and rear divider. To further organize your contents, separately available Peak Design compartments are available to store camera, video, audio, and digital media equipment, as well as apparel or small electronics.

When the Travel Backpack is worn, a sleeve with dedicated pockets for a 10" tablet computer and a 15" laptop rests behind the shoulders, within the main compartment. A front-facing pocket provides quick access to your phone, sunglasses, or music player earphones. Hidden side pockets safely hold your passport, phone, or other items that benefit from a higher degree of security. Two large, open side pockets have locking straps to secure a water bottle, a tripod, a monopod, or a trekking pole.

If placed on the ground, complete access to optional Peak Design compartments or the main compartment is provided by a zippered panel that faces the rear and a front panel. The front panel unzips to reveal four zippered mesh pockets that store and organize batteries, memory cards, or small electronics. When partially opened, the rear panel zippers allow access to your laptop or tablet through the top of the pack. Access the main compartment while you are wearing the pack through the zippered side panels.

Carry options include built-in side and top handles plus adjustable backpack straps. For heavy loads, use the sternum strap to distribute the weight. You can also use the waist belt to transfer weight to your hips for additional comfort and to limit unintentional shifting. During storage or transport, the straps and waist belt can be tucked behind the rear panel, which has a built-in handle that can be used as trolley sleeve for attaching the pack to the handle of your rolling luggage for seamless travel.

Featuring durable, nylon construction, the Travel Backpack is built to be weather resistant and is compatible with a separately available rain cover for further protection from the elements.

Looking at the specs the laptop compartment is 40.6cm x 30cm x 2.5cm which looks like it will accept a 17" laptop, but in B&H overview says 15" laptop. Will it hold for example a Asus 17.3" ROG Strix SCAR 17SE laptop?
Asked by: CARLOS
Yes, the laptop compartment in the Peak Design Travel Backpack (Sage) will hold the ASUS 17.3" Republic of Gamers Strix SCAR 17 SE Gaming Laptop.

I have read mixed reviews of the hip/waist straps. Can anyone comment on whether they help to distribute the weight comfortably?
Asked by: Toby
It does help quite a bit to distribute the weight evenly, but keep in mind it is a bi smaller and less padded than most would expect. Better for every day commuter shooters and not as comfortable for long hikes.

I've been on a quest to find the perfect bag. I have the Atlas Adventure Pack and the Peter Mckinnon Nomatic. Both have a depth issue. My 5DMIV with battery grip doesn't fit well. Put a decent sized tripod plate on and forget it. Can anyone shed light on the depth for this?
Asked by: Chris
My 5D3 with grip and 50mm 1.2L lens fit perfectly in a on-side orientation. Theoretically you could put a larger lens and fit as well. Bag is very roomy. It works largely on the insert systems so I recommend going to the manufacturer site and looking at the depth for the insert you wish to use to see how it will fit. Also Peak Design is one of the best companies when it comes to how to videos. Search them on YouTube and they will have many videos of their products and different fitments for many popular hardware.

Can this bag hold a 600 mm lens? If not, what's the largest lens the bag can hold?
Asked by: NateJay
Peak Design Travel Backpack (Black) does not include any dividers though. Usually an option with dividers is purchased so that it can better hold the lens. For example this one comes with the medium dividers. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1456246-REG/peak_design_peak_design_45l_travel.html The medium dividers measures only 11 x 11 x 6" so it would fit a smaller lens for example 70-300, but it depends on the exact lens you are looking for because there are larger and smaller 600mm lenses in the market.
