SLR Magic Cine 50mm f/1.1 Mark II Overview

By B&H Photo's
The SLR Magic Cine II 50mm f/1.1 Lens is a Sony E-mount cine-style lens providing full-frame sensor coverage. This second-generation Cine prime offers improved image capture and features seven lens elements in six groups. Weighing just under a pound, the Cine II 50mm features a fast f/1.1 maximum aperture for producing a shallow depth of field.

Cine-style features include geared focus and aperture rings, a clickless iris that enables smooth aperture pulls, and a 13-blade Iris for a rounded aperture and smooth bokeh. The front of the lens does not rotate as you focus, enabling the use of optional polarizing filters or accessories such as clip-on matte boxes.

Cine-Ready Optics
The lens covers full-frame sensors with a 50mm focal length. The fast f/1.1 maximum aperture provides excellent low-light performance and a shallow depth of field. The 13-blade iris delivers a rounded aperture for pleasing bokeh, and the Cine II design utilizes seven elements in six groups for improved image quality over previous versions.
Smooth Adjustment
The clickless iris allows you to smoothly adjust your exposure during the shot. Built-in iris and focus gears follow industry standards, allowing you to work with optional follow focus units and lens gear motors.

Some vignetting wide open. It can be a little soft and dreamy, but that's part of the charm.

It's probably the best lens you'll get that's even aimed at cinema photography at this price, looks through loads of online stores and found this one, tried it out and loved it, amazing fast-focus, high aperture and sturdy, solid build. I've been looking for a manual focus lens for a while, and to see this cine lens being offered at this price, you should get it before the sale ends

just buy it!

if you like getting shots with awesome shallow depth of field dont think twice about it, for $200 you cant get a better 50mm f1.1 the build quality is great, really solid lens. it comes with a metal hood and front and rear lens caps, image quality; its better than i expected, the sharpness is about as equal to a kit lens, there is no vignetting but just a bit of chromatic aberration. but for a full frame 50mm 1.1 and for the price of $200 and the decent sharpness and build quality, this lens comes highly recommended.

Professional quality Cinelens

Can't believe the quality of this full frame lens for the price. It's manual but that just got me more hands on with my pics and videos. Definitely recommend this lens, it has a very cinematic look and gets really blurry, almost swiryly bokeh.

Bokeh Monster for Photography

I know this is a lens for Cine but i am extremely pleased using this for photography. I don't understand why this lens is not popular already. This lens has character and good controlled bokeh almost in every corner of the frame. I use this lens usually for night time portrait photoshoots where there are many neons and led lights, yes it is hard to control at first and it takes time learn how to adjust focus but it gave me a whole different view about photography. I have few vintage fast lenses and Sony 55mm 1.8 and Sony is still my main lens. So instead of getting a GM 50mm 1.2 i got this lens. It also helps me most when i want to be creative ,I go manual and think about composition. Now other photographers asks me often how I do take my shots. Better than any manual or vintage lens I tried by far. It gets a bit soft on f1.1 but it gets much better on f1.4. I don't know why but f1.4 on this lens is brighter sharper and have bigger bokeh than all of my 1.4 vintage lenses. Since aperture ring is click less i put a tape on the ring to lock it. If you are searching for cheap lens with depth of field or fast lens for night portrait photography its the best you can buy for this price.

Wat's the difference between the 50mm II and the 75mm?
Asked by: Sayyid Khalifa
The main differences between the SLR Magic Cine II 50mm f/1.1 and the SLR Magic Cine 75mm f/1.4 FE Lens for Sony E-Mount are the difference in focal lengths, and the 75mm has a f1.4 vs the f1.1 on the 50mm. Both lenses are nearly identical in weight and size, varying only slightly and both feature 52mm filter threads.

The four conners of a photo is much darker than the rest of the photo, like looking through a tube. Is this normal?
Asked by: Jie
The SLR Magic Cine II 50mm f/1.1 Lens (Sony E-Mount) (B&H# SL5011FE2) does exhibit significant vignetting, especially at its widest aperture setting. You'll find that you can increase the aperture number setting (thereby reducing the size of the aperture or iris itself) and the corners will brighten relative to the level of brightness in the center of the frame. Thus the brightness will be more uniform at, say, f/5.6 versus, say, f/1.1.

While this lens is designed for Cinema use you will certainly be able to take still images with it as well. Keep in mind it is a fully manual lens though, it will not work with your still camera's auto focus features when taking an image.
