Insta360 Pro II Overview

This B&H Kit combines the Insta360 Pro II VR Camera with one additional battery. The Pro II VR Camera is designed to record immersive 360° spherical VR videos and stills in resolutions up to 8K 3D.

Insta360 Pro II Spherical VR 360 8K Camera with FarSight Monitoring

The Insta360 Pro II VR Camera with FarSight bundle from Insta360 captures 360 spherical VR videos and stills in configurations up to 8K 3D. This successor to the Insta360 Pro can record immersive 8K video while streaming in 4K and includes the FarSight remote monitoring system. Insta360 Pro II features include precise 9-axis FlowState stabilization, CrystalView monitoring on standard devices, automatic proxy file creation, and stitch-free editing in Adobe Premiere Pro.

The FarSight 360° long-range monitoring system includes a transmitter and receiver for live monitoring your capture from up to one mile away ground-to-ground, or two miles ground-to-air. Wi-Fi preview is available at 30 fps up to 15' without using FarSight. The CrystalView function converts 8K VR footage for viewing on popular 4K VR headsets and standard smartphones or monitors, expanding your potential audience.

Save time and processing with the Insta360 Pro II's ability to create proxy files for instant stitching and real-time editing in Adobe Premiere Pro. When you have your final cut, the Insta360 algorithm stitches together a full-resolution version. Each camera records to a microSD card while proxy files and stabilization data are captured to a full SD card. The camera features bit rates up to 120 Mb/s, and records audio via four built-in mics and a 3.5mm mic input.

The Insta360 Pro II's optical features include six selectable 200° fisheye lenses, adjustable shutter speed, and an ISO range of 100-6400. An HDR (high dynamic range) function provides natural-looking lighting even in unevenly lit settings. High-speed frame rates are available up to 120 fps and the still mode includes raw, JPEG, burst, and time-lapse options.

Image stabilization is a vital VR component and the Insta360 Pro II combines a 9-axis gyro with the downloadable Insta360 software for precise, customizable stabilization. A built-in GPS module provides data for Google Maps Street View, and other precision-mapping applications. The Insta360 Pro II features a compact aluminum frame, two USB ports, and a hot swap battery dock.

Insta360 Pro II Reviews

Clunky, Unreliable. Not Pro Level!

I rented this camera, for three days for a professional training video shoot, and Architecture documentation job, and this was my experience. Not a professional camera. I do not recommend this camera if you expect to capture anything more than a solo basic, non-paying set of images. It's a toy. Farsight was unreliable. Shot in 15 different locations, inside and out, dropped or didn’t work. Built-in WiFi was not very long range, but at least it reconnected when in range and wasn’t too much of a battery suck. Live stream mode stops after 15 min of record time. Did Not save settings from the last shot. The standby fan is excessively loud. Unreliable, and no real pro monitoring solution, even when paired with HDMI & a Bolt 1000. The Bolt worked great! :) Built-in 1/4 20 plates and mount are not sturdy enough for lock mount to a large moving object. Needs a 3/4in thread. 7 micro sd Cards? Good luck being quick to swap media... God forbid, you wanted to swap media anywhere but a cleanroom. Have fun finding a tiny card in some large gravel... Live stitching was poor even after calibration. Card speed test after swap took a good 30seconds. No f-stop adjustment, or ND solution. Randomly would switch to 3D or 2D between takes. Stills- quick capture, only complaint is having to double-check settings every time you take a photo. Random raw+jpg change between shots. Great for quick solo capture, but don’t expect to see anything during recording unless you are right next to it in the shot...

This is my second Insta360: I also have the Pro I. First, let me alert B&H customers that for the Pro II to function, you *must* have 6 microSD cards installed. As far as I can tell, this key fact is not indicated on B&H's product page. In trying to test the device yesterday, I wasted a lot of time before I was able to learn from Insta360's helpline (thank you, Cindy!) that this was the cause of my error message about not having a storage device, despite the fact that I had an SD card installed. So, if you buy the camera, be sure to purchase the 6 mandatory microSD cards at the same time if you don't already have them. Like the SD card, they must be V30 certified, so pay attention to that, too. Regarding the performance, the Pro II has some improvements over the Pro I, but I have noticed something disappointing as well: even with SanDisk Extreme PRO level cards (170 MB/s), it takes an inordinate amount of time for the Pro II to write the data of an 8k pano shot JPEG+RAW to the disks. With the Pro I, I could take a shot, and the camera was ready for the next shot within a minute. With the Pro II, it takes an average of 3-4 minutes. (In case anyone is wondering, I had the camera's onboard real-time stitching feature turned off.) If you have a lot of shots to take, this will really slow you down. That said, the quality of the 8k panos is quite nice, and there is no competing device in the same price range.

It is not as easy to use as they make it out to be, mainly because of the lack of well communicated tutorials. Insta360 Pro I is mostly what you will find on YouTube. I think I'm 75% caught up on how it works. Video quality is pretty good. I can tell that it's not tworth $5k though. Got mine open box at a discount and will probably send it back.

Only the SD card is required for live streaming via wifi or ethernet. To record, you need all six microSD cards + the SD card.

Is this camera water resistant? Not planning on submerging it, but will be shooting jet ski tours.
Asked by: gareth
The Pro/Pro II camera have cooling vents on top and bottom. While you can disable the fan, that limits the recording length as there is a thermal shut off, so using a waterproof enclosure would cause the camera to overheat and shut down quickly. That said, I mounted the Insta360 Pro II to a tripod on my car to document miles of dusty dirt roads for GSV and was surprised at how little dust got into the camera and on the lenses. Had used painters tape to seal the microSD ports, battery hatch, but that wasn't really necessary to keep dust out (but I recommend doing so to ensure you don't loose any microSD Cards).

Can the camera be operated with the antennas removed, and just record without remote control. I plan to operate the camera underwater in a custom waterproof resistant housing. With no fittings or allowance to stick through the antennas. A watertight spherical housing. ?
Asked by: herve
Yes. You can operate the Insta360 Pro II Spherical VR 360 8K Camera without antennas attached or the FarSight Monitoring. And unfortunately, we do not carry any underwater housing for the Pro II.
