This is my fourth Samsung X5 Portable SSD. I have had no issues with any of the previous SSDs I own. They do the job! And, they are packaged in a way that makes them easy to bring along when I travel. I am extremely careful with my backup devices, so I put the SSD back into the box, and it fits into my camera bag. At this point, I would not consider anything different.

yesterday, i plugged in my drive, and it appeared on my desktop. i pulled up the samsungportablessd app, and it said, "no samsung portablessd is connected." nothing loads other than the x5_setup read-only partition. it also seems to get very hot. now i'm stuck on hold with tech support.

Really fast performance - copying from another Samsung X5 runs at 1.2GB/s. Gets hot. Initially couldn't get it to connect - got a warning from my iMac Pro that more power was needed (the iMac has fourThunderbolt 3 connections and I had three connected to other SSDs). Moving things around got it connected. I suspect this 2TB model pulls more power than the 1TB devices so be aware of this issue.

Samsung 1TB X5 Portable SSD works seamlessly with my Macbook Pro Max in 4K Video and high fidelity audio production. This mesh in performance is mainly due to SSD thunderbolt interface.

Perfect high speed external drive for 5th Gen iPad

I have now bought 2 of these drives. My son uses one to back up large video and graphics files. I needed a combination of flexible storage options, high transfer speed, and low physical profile without overheating to take advantage of the now excellent iOS File app and its compatibility with external drives. I did a lot of research then went with the Samsung X5... twice. It's everything the specs claim and plus easy to transport - not always the case! B&H was amazing. I had my X5 in Chicago (from the East Coast) the day after I ordered and at no shipping charge.

Will it work with 2015 MacBook Pro Thunderbolt 2 ?

The Samsung 1TB X5 Portable SSD B&H # SAMUPB1T0BAM is only compatible with systems that have a Thunderbolt 3 port. The adapter from Apple which converts Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 will not work because it does not provide power to the device, only data.

Is it work for Blackmagic Pocket Cinema 4K camera with 4K 60fps Raw lossless video?
Asked by: Ping
Not that we are aware of. This is not on Blackmagic's list of recommended drives for the Pocket Cinema Camera 4K. Currently the highest quality they list as possible with a USB-C Drive is RAW 3:1 and they recommend the Samsung 2TB T5 for that. https://bhpho.to/2NMo9rx

Will this work with the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K?

The Samsung X5 requires a full thunderbolt 3 connection to run. As the Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera 4K only has USB-C, this drive will not work with it.

I have a 2015 macbook pro and a newer 2018 macbook pro. This boots right up using Thunderbolt 3 on the newer macbook pro. I purchased a USB-C to USB3.0 cable to use this on the 2015 macbook pro (running Sierra) and it didn't mount. Is this a cable issue or software issue? I can't seem to find a Thunderbolt3 to Thunderbolt2 cable. They have TB2 to TB3 cables (sold by Apple), but not the other way around.

This drive will only connect and operate when connected to a Thunderbolt 3 port.
