I bought this for my wife's p1000. When setting it up. Ran out of adjustment, and could not cowitness to focal point at any distance. Suggestions?
When using the Nikon DF-M1 Dot Sight,. it would be good to start over focusing on a close subject to get it to work in the beginning. If the "Dot Sight" does not work as it is supposed to, it has a one year warranty, and Nikon will be happy to fix it or replace it with a properly working one.

question
IF IT CONNECTS VIA HOT-SHOE - WHY DOES IT NEED INDEPENDENT BATTERIES?
There is no connectivity with the hot shoe. The hot shoe simply holds the dot sight.

question
Why only the P1000? Seems that since this was announced along with the 500 f5.6 PF, it would be compatible with at least recent Nikon DSLRs like the D5/850/500. Nikon needs to clarify this before i purchase. tks
I believe this should work on any camera that has a hot shoe. I have the Olympus EE-1 (link below) which I use on my Nikon D800. It is great for me when shooting BIF. I can keep my face a few inches behind the camera with both eyes open, and track moving objects with more precision. It just requires a couple alignment/centering shots when starting a shoot. Mine uses a 2032 button cell battery as I think this Nikon will also use.https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1116753-REG/olympus_ee_1_dot_sight_for.html?sts=pi-ps

question
What battery does this use ?
The battery for the Nikon Df-M1 Dot Sight is the 3v CR 2032 ; it takes three of them.

question
Does this have some special connectivity/functionality with the P1000 that precludes it from being used with a DSLR and super telephoto lens? ... IE 1000mm reflex and TC-301 on cropped body?
Nope. Like the less-expensive Olympus EE-1, it will work with any camera with a standard flash shoe. There are no connections -- just the mount.
