Intel D435 Overview

The Intel RealSense Depth Camera D435 extracts 3D information from a scene to let developers add 3D depth to robotics navigation, object recognition, and other applications. It is a USB-powered depth camera and features a pair of depth sensors, an RGB sensor, and an infrared projector. The D435 is an indoor/outdoor solution designed to best fit developers' prototypes. It has a wide field of view and global shutter combination that offers accurate depth perception when an object is moving or a device is in motion, and it covers more area, minimizing blind spots. This camera comes with a mini tripod and a USB Type-C to USB Type-A cable.

Stereo Depth
Stereo image sensing technologies use two cameras to calculate depth. Intel RealSense stereo depth technology brings 3D to devices and machines that only see 2D. Designed for easy setup and portability, the RealSense D435 features long-range capabilities and high depth resolution and includes active infrared (IR) stereo. The D435 is a wide field of view solution using global shutter sensors. The wide view/global shutter combination makes the D435 ideal for applications such as robotic navigation and object recognition. The wider field of view allows a single camera to cover more area, resulting in less blind spots. The global shutter sensors provide great low-light sensitivity, allowing robots to navigate spaces with the lights off.

Intel D435 Reviews

Stereoscopic Camera with Limited Depth Range

By Michael
Rated 4 out of 5

The hardware is very compact and solid, especially for the price, and the camera comes with some software (can be downloaded from Intel) that allows you to test the camera without a problem. However, you must use USB 3.0 or the resolution will suffer greatly. The only downside is the limited range of the camera. After extensive testing indoors and outdoors, the default settings allow me to get 3D information only up to approximately 4 m. Even after reading up on how to extend the range (RealSense website) and playing with some of the more than 30 parameter settings (most of which are not explained in detail), I was unable to get close to the theoretical limit of 10 m.

Best depth sensor.

Are there any scuffs on the plastic in the viewing path of the optics?
Asked by: James
Not on the one I got. The clear plastic front surface of the camera is protected in shipping with a protective blue film that I had to peel off before I used the camera.
