The black 1 Series Tripster Travel Tripod from Benro is a five-section aluminum tripod with a two-section center column that combine to reach a maximum height of 59.3", while weighing 3.4 lb. Splaying the legs completely out, the support drops to a minimum height of 14". Moreover, the legs fold in the reverse to a compact 14.2", so you can carry it to the next location. The removable center column and one leg can combine to create a monopod with a maximum height of 61.4". The Arca-type compatible ball head has a load capacity of 18 lb and includes a quick release plate with a 1/4"-20 camera mounting thread. Additionally, a 1/4"-20 socket located on the yoke of the tripod is used to attach other accessories that would aid you in creating a photograph.

Carbon Fiber is lighter than Aluminum, so the weight of the Tripod will be less. Carbon Fiber also absorbs vibrations better, giving you a more stable platform.

The description says the center column is removable, but does that mean you can mount the ballhead directly to the legs to get it lower?

You need the center column to use the ball head. It's removeable so that you can reverse it if you want to get low shots.

The detachable monopod leg of this tripod doesn't fit the Benro 3-Leg Locking Base For Monopods. Does anyone know what adapter would work to connect these two items?

Because the detachable monopod leg of the Benro Tripster Travel Tripod does not allow for the removal of the "rubber foot", the Benro 3-leg Locking Base for Monopods cannot be connected.
