Built with an in-view compass and rangefinder and designed to be buoyant, the compact Levenhuk 8x30 Nelson Binoculars are made to be your constant companion for all-day use at the beach, in the bay, or out on the high seas.

The combination of magnification and objective lens size produces an exceptionally wide field of view with a long eye relief that help to improve comfort, minimize eye fatigue, and mitigate the disorientation that is common when looking through binoculars on rough or rolling water. Their traditional Porro prism optical path provides a rich depth of field to more easily see the relative distances between objects in your view. Using both passive and active illumination for easy viewing regardless of how much light is present, the compass enables you to take your bearings in all directions, with a reticle and calculation aids that allow you to quickly and easily estimate the distance to, and size of, objects that you're looking at.

To withstand harsh saltwater marine environments, the chassis is made of a plastic that is corrosion and impact resistant, and the optical tubes are nitrogen filled and O-ring sealed to be submersible and fogproof even in extreme weather conditions. The chassis is also made to be buoyant in case the binoculars accidentally go overboard, while the included high-visibility floating neck strap makes it easy to see for a fast water rescue. Tethered objective lens caps and one-piece rainguard ensure they won't be washed away while you're actively using the binoculars. For comfortable long-duration use, the Nelson is tripod mountable with an optional adapter to eliminate arm fatigue and minimize vibrations.

Optical Performance

  • 8x power magnifies view while maintaining a wide field of view and long eye relief
  • 30mm objectives help to deliver a compact and easy-to-manage form factor for all-day use
  • Traditional Porro prism light path produces a naturally ergonomic body while providing a rich depth of field to more easily discern the relative distances between two objects in the field of view
  • BAK4 prism glass produces crisp and sharp aberration-free views with a round exit pupil
  • Anti-reflection fully multi-coated optics maximize light transmission to improve image brightness, color rendition, and contrast
  • Two-element/one-group eyepiece lens configuration; four-element / three-group objective lens design
  • Wide 64° apparent angle of view helps to minimize the distortion that often occurs on rough water when the horizon line pitches and rolls
  • Spacious 419-foot field of view at 1000 yards

  • In-view compass and reticle let you take bearing readings without removing your eyes from optic
  • Rangefinding reticle allows you to estimate distance, and size of, an object like a buoy or boat
  • Opaque window on top of compass housing illuminates compass during the day to maximize battery life
  • LED compass/reticle illumination in low light when needed; simple push-button activation
  • 360° compass markings at 1° increments; North is 360°, South is 180°, East is 90°, West is 270°
  • Rotating calculation aid on exterior of left optical tube makes estimating distances and sizes of objects faster and easier
  • Runs on two included LR44 batteries

Use and Handling

  • Individually focusing eyepieces enable precision focusing for all users
  • ±5 dioptric focusing range for both eyes
  • 56-76mm interpupillary adjustment range
  • Tripod mountable with optional adapter for hands-free use to reduce vibration and arm fatigue
  • Fold-down rubber eyecups for comfortable use with or without eyewear
  • Long 18mm eye relief reduces eyestrain and maximizes comfort during long glassing sessions
  • 3.75mm exit pupil will cover pupils as they dilate in fading light

  • Impact- and corrosion-resistant plastic chassis is ideal for use in harsh conditions such as around saltwater
  • Buoyant body design with high-visibility floating strap make it easy to retrieve if the binoculars go overboard
  • Nitrogen filled and O-ring sealed for an IPX7-rating to be waterproof and resistant to internal fogging when moving through extreme temperature or environmental conditions
  • Rubber armoring with palm pads protects against impacts while providing a positive slip-resistant grip—especially in cold and wet weather
  • Tethered objective lens caps won't get lost or wash overboard while binoculars are in use
  • One-piece ocular rainguard attaches to strap and prevents water from pooling in eyecups in the rain or rough seas
  • Broad -4 to 131°F (-20 to 55°C) operating temperature range
