Levenhuk Nelson overview

  • 1Description

Built with an in-view compass and rangefinder, and buoyant when used with the included neck strap, the compact Levenhuk 8x42 Nelson Monocular was made to be your constant companion out on the high seas from dawn to dusk—rain or shine.

The moderate magnification and objective lens size produce an exceptionally long eye relief and wide exit pupil that help to improve viewing comfort, minimize eye fatigue, and mitigate the disorientation that is common when looking through an optic on rough or rolling water. Its roof prism optical path ensures the optical tube remains slim and easy to manage under most boating conditions. The wide objective also draws in the large amounts of light required to keep the views bright and clear in low light, such as at dawn or dusk and under heavy cloud cover. An opaque window on the top of the compass housing provides passive illumination so no batteries are ever required. The compass enables you to take your bearings in all directions, and its rangefinding reticle allows you to estimate the distance to, and size of, objects that you're looking at.

To withstand harsh saltwater marine environments, the chassis is made of a plastic that is corrosion and impact resistant, and the optical tube is nitrogen filled and O-ring sealed to be submersible and fogproof even in extreme weather conditions. The included high-visibility floating neck strap makes your monocular easy to see for a fast water rescue, while ensuring it doesn't sink to the bottom.

Optical Performance
  • 8x power magnifies view while maintaining a wide exit pupil and long eye relief
  • 42mm objective helps to deliver a compact and easy-to-manage form factor while still being useful in low-light conditions
  • Compact roof prism light path ensures a slim housing for easier handling
  • BAK4 prism glass produces crisp and sharp aberration-free views with a round exit pupil
  • Anti-reflection fully multi-coated optics maximize light transmission to improve image brightness, color rendition, and contrast
  • Two-element/one-group eyepiece lens configuration; three-element/two-group objective lens design
  • Apparent angle of view approaches wide-angle to help minimize the disorientation that often comes when viewing through magnified optics on rough seas as the horizon line pitches and rolls
  • 360-foot field of view at 1000 yards
Compass
  • Recommended use during the day as there is no electronic illumination in low-light conditions
  • In-view compass and reticle lets you take bearing readings without removing eye from optic
  • Rangefinding reticle allows you to estimate distance, and size of, an object like a buoy or boat
  • Opaque window on top of compass housing illuminates compass during the day
  • 360° compass markings at 1° increments; North is 360°, South is 180°, East is 90°, West is 270°
Use and Handling
  • Slip-resistant focusing wheel is easy to manipulate in cold and wet weather
  • ±4 dioptric adjustment focuses the reticle
  • Twist-up rubber eyecup for comfortable use with or without eyewear
  • Exceptional 23mm eye relief reduces eyestrain and maximizes comfort during long glassing sessions
  • Wide 5mm exit pupil will completely cover pupils when they open and fully dilate in low light
Construction
  • Impact- and corrosion-resistant plastic chassis is ideal for use in harsh conditions such as around saltwater
  • Nitrogen filled and O-ring sealed for an IPX7-rating to be waterproof and resistant to internal fogging when moving through extreme temperature or environmental conditions
  • Rubber armoring protects against impacts while providing a positive slip-resistant grip—especially in cold and wet weather
  • Buoyant high-visibility neck strap makes it easy to retrieve the monocular if it goes overboard
  • Broad -4 to 131°F (-20 to 55°C) operating temperature range
