Apple Z0UN1LL/A overview

  • 1Description

Experience the innovative interface of the Touch Bar in the mid 2017 space gray Apple 13.3" MacBook Pro with Touch Bar.

The Touch Bar places controls right at your fingertips and adapts to different apps to provide useful functions without having to navigate complex menus or memorize keyboard shortcuts. Replacing the function keys in the top row of the keyboard, the Touch Bar features a Retina-quality display and supports multi-touch input.

The power button has been upgraded with a Touch ID sensor, so you can quickly log into your MacBook Pro using your fingerprint. You can also use Touch ID to make purchases over the web, thanks to Apple Pay. Touch ID enables a quick, accurate reading of your fingerprint and uses sophisticated algorithms to recognize and match it with the Secure Enclave in the Apple T1 chip.

The system features a 7th Gen Kaby Lake 3.1 GHz Intel Core i5 dual-core processor, 16GB of 2133 MHz LPDDR3 onboard memory, a 512GB PCIe-based SSD, four Thunderbolt 3 (USB Type-C) ports, a Force Touch trackpad, a keyboard with a 2nd-gen butterfly mechanism, stereo speakers with double the dynamic range of its predecessor as well as improved bass, 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2 wireless technology, and even a 3.5mm headphone jack. macOS High Sierra is the installed operating system.

Please note that this Mac may come with an earlier version of macOS. You can upgrade to the latest version through the Mac App Store app.

Touch Bar
The Touch Bar replaces the function keys that have long occupied the top of your keyboard with something much more versatile and capable. The multi-touch, Retina-quality display changes automatically based on what you're doing, from showing traditional system controls, such as volume and brightness, to more directly interacting with or browsing through content. Intelligent typing features like emoji and predictive text improve the typing experience, and you'll be able to customize the Touch Bar to fit your needs. The Touch Bar can also adapt to apps, such as Mail, Safari, Messages, and even third-party apps like Adobe Photoshop, so you'll have access to useful functions previously hidden in menus.
Touch ID
A Touch ID sensor has been integrated into the power button, so you can quickly log into your account, even when another user is logged in. You can also use it with Apple Pay to securely purchase things over the web, thanks to macOS Sierra.
Retina Display
The 13.3" Retina Display has a 2560 x 1600 resolution and features brighter LED backlighting than its predecessor as well as an increased contrast ratio, delivering deeper blacks and brighter whites. Its larger pixel aperture and variable refresh rate make it more power efficient than previous generations. It also supports the P3 color gamut, which allows for more vibrant colors. This ensures true-to-life pictures with realistically vivid details, which are essential for graphic design, color grading, and editing.
Force Touch Trackpad
The Force Touch trackpad on the MacBook Pro takes all the capabilities of multi-touch and adds force sensors that detect subtle differences in the amount of downward pressure you apply. This lets you have a deeper connection to your content, bringing more functionality right to your fingertip. It also introduces haptic feedback to MacBook Pro — allowing you not just to see what's happening on the screen, but to feel it. With multi-touch, you can use realistic gestures like swiping or pinching to switch between apps, navigate your content, and get the most out of your desktop space.
Thinner & Lighter
The MacBook Pro features a redesigned enclosure design and all-metal unibody construction that creates a rigid and dense notebook that is also thin and light. At just 14.9 mm thin, the MacBook Pro weighs just three pounds.
Audio
The speakers have been totally redesigned to provide as much as twice the dynamic range and up to 58 percent more volume, with two-and-a-half-times louder bass for maximum boom. Plus, they're connected directly to system power, enabling up to three times more peak power.
Thunderbolt 3
Thunderbolt 3 is a hardware interface that utilizes the reversible USB Type-C connector. Doubling the speed of its predecessor, Thunderbolt 3 features a maximum throughput of 40 Gb/s when used with compatible devices. The connector also transmits data via USB 3.1 at up to 10 Gb/s, and dual-bandwidth DisplayPort 1.2 allows you to connect up to two 4K displays simultaneously or one multi-panel 5K display. The Macbook Pro has four ports, with each pair using a dedicated bus.

    Apple Z0UN1LL/A reviews

13.3" MacBook Pro with Touch Bar (Mid 2017, Space Gray) is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 23.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great laptop without the taxes Very happy with this 2017 MacBook Pro. I bought the 13 over the 15 for portability plus I have a large 4K monitor if I need more working space at home. I went with 16Gb RAM and 512Gb HD as I'm a software developer and like to use virtual machines for development (Linux Mint, Windows), so need the extra memory and storage for that. Overall, extremely satisfied with the laptop - it's fast, the screen is beautiful and the build quality is top notch. Sure, a Mac costs more than a PC, but in my experience it also lasts much longer. Buying through B&H saved me a couple hundred in taxes and they delivered quickly and the laptop was packed very well.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Amazing, albeit overpriced Fast, light, and the Retina display is beautiful. Replaced my old 15 MacBook Pro with this and was worried I'd miss the extra screen real estate. I don't miss it very much at all, and since I ride the train to work every day, I'm grateful for the much smaller, thinner form factor, the significantly increased battery life and the overall lighter package. One major issue is that the RAM is hard-wired in and the storage is proprietary, so if you think you'll ever need to upgrade either, opt for higher specs when you buy the machine. This will drive up the price of an already expensive laptop, but in the case of the RAM, it's the only way to future proof it. If money is no object, think of this as a five-star machine and one of the best Apple has ever made. For the rest of us, the price point and lack of upgradability brings it down to four stars.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Powerful centerpiece for Music Production This laptop has plenty of juice. I loaded it up with several softsynths: Ivory II, NI Komplete, Arturia V Colletion, SampleTank 3, and Waves Elecctric 88. I host them in Digital Performer 9 and Ableton Live 9. They both run very effficiently. On my first outing live, I had a set built with about 14 softsynths running simultaneous, layered and split across two controllers. It ran both effortlessly and flawlessly. The SSD still has plenty of space for more and together with the 16gb RAM make for speedy boot and load times.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love my new Mac We switched everything over to Mac about 8 years ago. I bought one of the last 17" laptops out there. Had it for 7 years and loved it. Decided to update to this 13" Mac. Was a little apprehensive because of the screen space. I shouldn't have been, though. I LOVE IT!!!! It's absolutely amazing....I can see what I've been missing, but my 17" is still going strong so I didn't have a need to switch. Finally, the weight of dragging it around prompted me to buy this one. So happy!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Upgrade Went from a now sluggish 2011 MacBook Air to this which is way faster. I'm still undecided on the Touch Bar at this point but I really wanted more than the 2 USB C ports that the non Touch Bar model comes with. I do a lot of video editing and this model speeds right through it using Final Cut Pro X with no sign of sluggishness whatsoever.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent laptop! Super fast, everything I expected! Recent upgrades to the 2017 Macbook line made this worth waiting for! The USB - C ports take a little getting used to but this is the new standard and we have to get used to it. Outstanding screen resolution and a great new keyboard. As always B&H customer support has been outstanding with this purchase. As a professional photographer it's always good to know you can depend on B&H for fast answers and excellent follow through when purchasing new gear! Thank you very much!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I hate the touchbar i could live with the USB-c I could live with extra usbc hub i could live with the new keyboard. but it sucks! I CANNOT live with the TOUCH BAR. it just sucks, poor design, poor usability. In fact I never realize how often my fingers accidentally land in that area of the keyboard. with keys it's fine, because it takes a press. With touch.. pff I end up activating all kind of undesired functions ALL THE TIME. And let's not talk about the ESC key which doesn't even have a feedback press. Weird experience... Stay away from the touch models.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lightning Fast and Super Sleek After upgrading from a 2009 MacBook Pro, I'm amazed at the speed and overall performance of the mid-2017 version. 4k videos play/edit without skipping a beat (as they did on my older machine with less memory). The touchbar is nice albeit unnecessary in some applications. Of course, you'll need dongles to connect older USB devices, but I'm getting used to it and it's not a hinderance. Overall, I'm thrilled with this purchase.
