Standard wide-angle to telephoto zoom lens is designed for use with full-frame Canon RF-mount mirrorless cameras.
Constant f/4 maximum aperture maintains consistent illumination throughout the zoom range.
Super Spectra coating has been applied to individual elements to minimize ghosting and flare for greater contrast and color neutrality when working in strong lighting conditions.
An Optical Image Stabilizer helps to minimize the appearance of camera shake by five stops to better enable working in low-light conditions and with slower shutter speeds.
Nano USM system utilizes both a ring type USM and an STM mechanism to realize quick and accurate focusing that is also smooth and near-silent to suit both photography and video applications. This focusing system also affords full-time manual focus control when working in the one-shot AF mode.
Configurable Control Ring can be used to adjust a variety of exposure settings, including aperture, ISO, and exposure compensation.
As a member of the esteemed L-series, this lens has a weather-resistant design that protects against dust and moisture to enable its use in inclement conditions.
Rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality.

I needed to replace my EF24-70 f/2.8 mk1 as I migrate to mirrorless. The 24-105 mm would be more useful for much of my needs, so I decided to try one. It has been good. The f/2.8 would have been preferred, but the 105mm @ f/4 focal length is a reasonable trade off.

A significantly improved version of the EF 24-105mm

When I first used this lens, I was confused about the focus. I could not hear a sound nor see the focus ring moving. I had to take several pictures, far and close, to make sure the automatic focus was working. Later on, I read Canon's manual, The lens' focusing ring is electronic, which I concluded means that it is not mechanical; hence it won't move when using automatic focus. Other than that initial confusion, the lens' performance is terrific, as expected.

I owned the EF version of this lens and it was great. I have not used this new version a lot but it has given me good shots so far. Along with the Canon 70-200mm f2.8 II lens, the 25-105 mm f4 lens gives you a wide range of photography shots.

I was quite surprised of the versatility and image quality of this lens. Even though its max aperture is 4. I used it in a recent filming and photo shoot and this lens never came of my camera. Thinking of taking less gear next time.

Feels solid like a rock!!!

I am a dance photographer and I am using this lens as an alternative to RF 70-200 when space is limited and you need a wider angle coverage to do action or group shots. And it works pretty good. However, don't expect it to be as sharp or as fast as 70-200 2.8 or a prime lens. It's just not that kind of lens. Also don't expect to zoom in and get a super sharp image. It's a little soft all around. But also this lens delivers really nice and sometimes WOW wide angle action shots. Final verdict: it's a solid quality lens, for the right price. Don't think much, just buy it!

If you like using polarizers, the convenience of the Canon Drop-In Filter Mount Adapter EF-EOS R with Circular Polarizer Filter might be enough to sway you towards the older lens.

Thanks for your quick response. This is good to know because multiple exposure is not supported in the non-L series, 24-105 lens.

How does it compared to Rf 24-70 f2.8 L in terms of image quality, sharpness, and details of images
Asked by: Philip
As I do not own or have any experience with the RF 24-70 F2.8 lens, I can only speak to the merits of the one I do own, the 24-105 f4 L. As stated by others, I find the F4 L to be very sharp and crisp, with good contrast, and it delivers amazing image quality. I believe you would not regret buying it, realizing that a significant price difference between it and the 24-70 f2.8 does not necessarily translate into higher quality.

Does the IS motor shut off when it's set to the ...

Does the IS motor shut off when it's set to the "off" position, or can you still hear it working?
Asked by: Geoff
Technically, the on/off switch for IS should do just that. However I think I understand your question in that one can still hear the whir-like sound of a motor when the switch is in the off position. I have not found any references to the design of the system, so I can only venture a theory that Canon chose to leave the motor on at all times when power is available to the lens (everything switches off if the camera goes into sleep mode or is switched off). Two reasons may justify this: to avoid wear and tear or to reduce surge power consumption spinning up the motor too frequently. I routinely get 300 pictures with this and other RF IS lenses with IS on, using the RP camera body, so it seems that power drain of IS is not a major issue.
