RF 28-70mm f/2.8L: A New Benchmark

  • Standard wide-angle to short-telephoto zoom lens is designed for use with full-frame Canon RF-mount mirrorless cameras.
  • Impressively bright f/2 maximum aperture maintains consistent illumination throughout the zoom range and suits working in low-light conditions as well as affords increased control over depth of field for working with selective focus techniques.
  • Ultra-Low Dispersion (UD) elements are featured in the optical design and help to suppress color fringing and chromatic aberrations in order to achieve greater clarity and color accuracy throughout the zoom range.
  • Configurable Control Ring can be used to adjust a variety of exposure settings, including aperture, ISO, and exposure compensation.
  • As a member of the esteemed L-series, this lens has a weather-resistant design that protects against dust and moisture to enable its use in inclement conditions.
  • A ring-type Ultrasonic Motor (USM), along with an internal focusing design, optimized focusing algorithms, and a high-speed CPU, is employed to deliver fast, precise, and quiet autofocus performance as well as full-time manual focus override.

BH is my go to for photography equipment. Always fantastic and fast service. This lens is simply amazing. It's heavy, but worth every penny.

Best Do All Lens

I have the 85mm f1.2, the 50mm 1.8, the 15-35mm f2.8, and the 70-200mm f2.8. When I bought this lens it was with the intention of having a super wide selection for focal range. What ended up happening was that I sold my 50mm, 85mm, and 70-200mm. I just didn't need them. This lens could do everything I wanted, and then some. I sold the 70-200 because I no longer need it for telephoto portraits. I now am eyeballing that 100-500mm f4.5-7.1. That would fit my needs for sports, the 28-70 for portraits and most everything, and the 15-35 for wide angle needs. That trinity would fit my needs best and they're all super incredible lenses!!

Little heavy but worth it

Not gonna lie it is a bit heavy. After two weddings I finally got used to it and it does not bother me anymore but at first my wrist and my left arm would hurt like crazy after an eight hour wedding. I am a portrait and wedding photographer and I mainly use this lens for wedding receptions but I did shoot an entire wedding with it this fall. So far absolutely love it and I will continue using it. I definitely use this lens more than My 35 mm and 50 mm and it definitely beats from switching back-and-forth however nothing beats my 85 mm. If you're into the end of year spending or if you're looking for a zoom lens that can replace your 35 and 50 mm then here is your lens. This lens is very sharp and definitely a great addition to my lens collection.

I purchased this lens to shoot events indoors in low light. It has not disappointed as I am getting great results. Image sharpness is amazing. It is like using a prime lens at 28mm, 35mm, 50 mm and 70 mm. It is on the heavy side, but I have gotten used to it and now the weight is not an issue for me. I am very happy to have this lens. It was worth the money.

I have been shooting with the RF28-70 F2.0 for little over a year. Bottom line have not taken it off the camera. It is big and impressive. if you want a lens that is going to get the job done for most jobs especially weddings this lens will do it. Make sure to but a 5 to 10lb dumbbell, before it arrives. You will need to workout a little so the weight will not make sour. However, once you get use to it you will not need much else. It shoots fast like a prime and it stops down to 2.0. The cost is high, but the quality is high. The Bokeh is outstanding especially at F2.0. If I had to take just one lens it would the RF28-70mm F2.0 The Barrel

Replaces a lot of primes and is a little bigger but I prefer that!

Feels a little heavy after a while but it delivers the quality(almost) and use of 3 Primes. Super creamy bokeh for a zoom lens. It's for a lifetime so worth the price.

This is hands down my favorite lens EVER. I used to be a die hard 35mm, 50mm, and 85mm lens user, but I got this one and it completely does the job of all 3 of those lenses. I was initially hesitant because 1. It's heavy and large 2. It's an investment- but it's 100% worth it. I'm in love with how fast it is, how accurate the focusing is, and the range is incredible. I use it on wedding days and portrait sessions and I get so many shots that I wouldn't otherwise be able to get. I cannot recommend it highly enough! :)

how bad is the focus breathing?
Asked by: patrick
Focus breathing on this drives me nuts, it isn't bad, but it isn't minimal as other have said, granted, the worst part is jumping in that close range (1' to 4'). So if you are using this for vlogging, and move around, it is bad. But using it at my kids concert this week, it doesn't do bad at the longer focus distances, even though that was still more than a 20' focus change on the stage, at 30' away.
