Sorry for the hyperbole. I've used every modern Canon lens from the EF 400/2.8, to the EF 14, to primes galore, to the RF name-your-lens. This lens is a miracle. It creates a soundstage for you in the glass. Even at wide angle, your subject is isolated from the world around it. Need to go closer? Zoom in. Still isolated. Crisp, sharp, contrasty. This is my new favorite lens of all time. Not sure what else to say. Get this and the 70-200 RF and you're covered in sooooo many ways. Enjoy.

As im sure you've seen the other reviewers state, this lens is simply unreal. The sharpness, build quality, bokeh, its just unbelievable. I would suggest waiting to purchase when there are coupons or deals ongoing given the hefty price (or maybe buying refurb) but regardless this lens is a must-have for any professional or enthusiast hobbyist.

Very different application but amazing! If you own a RED Komodo or Raptor..try this lens once! Its a perfect paring for interviews, documentary work. The in progress RED autofocus works well, use a medium size focal window, it will focus quickly and stay locked. This is a great option instead of a prime ..it is F2, full frame, compact and great to travel with , rather than a long lens that needs rod support. It is my quick i don't know what to expect, cover bases' lens.

Like no other lens. A perfect match with a Canon R5.

I've had this lens a few weeks now, and it has vastly exceeded my expectations. It's more than just the tack sharp images-it somehow collects and focuses light like no other lens I've ever used. I import photos taken with this lens into Lightroom, fiddle with them, and then simply revert to 'As Shot'. The color, contrast, bokeh, and vignetting out of the camera are just that good. It also pairs perfectly with an R5. The R5's IBIS, 45-megapixel sensor and amazing autofocus system are just what's needed to make the most of this lens.

Wonderful lens... works great but very wide and kind of hard to handle. It's massive and heavy. Found my wrists tired and sore after a long wedding day. Upside... crisp beautiful images and it saved me so much time not having to switch between my three favorite lenses. This baby replaced 4 lenses for me. That is a win in my book.

how bad is the focus breathing?

Focus breathing on this drives me nuts, it isn't bad, but it isn't minimal as other have said, granted, the worst part is jumping in that close range (1' to 4'). So if you are using this for vlogging, and move around, it is bad. But using it at my kids concert this week, it doesn't do bad at the longer focus distances, even though that was still more than a 20' focus change on the stage, at 30' away.

The locak switch on the Canon RF 28-70mm f/2 L USM Lens can't be used at any focal length. The switch is provided to lock the lens at the retracted 28mm length, preventing gravity extension / lens creep.
