Compact, lightweight, and close-focusing, the RF 35mm f/1.8 Macro IS STM from Canon is a unique wide-angle prime mixing the versatility of a general wide lens with the specialty of a 1:2 macro optic. An advanced optical design is benefitted by a Super Spectra coating, which helps to control flare and ghosting for greater contrast and color accuracy when working in bright or backlit conditions. Capable of focusing down to 6.7" at half life-size, this lens is ideal for photographing everything from close-ups of plants to street scenes and landscapes. The bright f/1.8 maximum aperture offers increased control over depth of field and also suits working in a variety of lighting conditions. Complementing this is a five stop-effective image stabilization, which minimizes the appearance of camera shake for sharper handheld shooting. Also, an STM motor affords impressively quiet and smooth autofocus performance and full-time manual focus override. Additionally, a configurable Control Ring lets you adjust exposure settings, including ISO, aperture, and exposure compensation, from the lens itself.

Canon RF 35mm f/1.8 IS Macro STM Reviews
I haven't taken many shots but so far I really like them. As always my order with BH was seamless.
Great image, just don't use it for video. The focus wheel on this suckssss.
Very versatile lens.
Very sharp, and while it cannot replace a 100mm macro, it really is a nice addition to the prime line up for the RF mount. IS works very well.
Going in, I knew this lens had two draw backs that I would need to be aware of: - f1.8 isn't super sharp throughout the entire frame. - the auto focus is very loud! Knowing that, I still wanted to pick up a native rf prime that was wider than the nifty 50 (which was my edc lens for 6 the past months). With all that said, I LOVE this lens for edc shots and haven't taken it off in the last month that I've owned it. I used to carry the nifty 50 in my sling "just in case", but I've stopped taking it with me. If you shoot wide open and are trying to cream out the background, then you will not notice the slightly out of focus fringing before the bok kicks in. I use an EOS R and really appreciate the IS built into the lens. My only real gripe is that it is twice the length of the nifty 50 making it awkward to put in and take out of my sling (hex ranger mini), but I guess that is the trade off for the lens IS. Overall, I would buy this again!
Quickly Becoming My Favorite
I really am loving this lens. Image quality is excellent and sharp. I'm also happy that that you can attach macro ring lights to this lens.
Great All-Around Lens
This lens is exactly what I've been looking for in an all-around, everyday use lens.
My go-to lens
I compared it side by side to my beloved EF 35mm f/1.4 (version 1) lens, and actually like this one better. They are both colorful and sharp, even wide open. But this new RF lens actually has smoother bokeh, even though it is only f/1.8.
Light and Sharp!
This is my first non L lens. It is very well built, very sharp, focuses fast, and quiet. My only complaints are that the lens barrel extends during focus, but it really has not been a issue, it just seems like something that could be damaged in the future. I also wish that it came with a lens hood, or that the lens hood that we design for it was more substantial/more economical.
