Canon RF 50mm f/1.2L USM Overview

By B&H Photo's

Distinguished by its speed, the RF 50mm f/1.2 L USM from Canon is a desirable normal-length prime due to its versatile focal length and bright f/1.2 maximum aperture. This fast design excels in difficult lighting conditions and also benefits working with shallow depth of field and selective focus techniques. The optical layout incorporates one UD element and one aspherical element, which help to reduce both chromatic and spherical aberrations in order to produce greater clarity and sharpness. Complementing the imaging capabilities is an apt ring-type Ultrasonic Motor, which delivers fast, near-silent autofocus and full-time manual focus override. Additionally, a unique Control Ring is integrated into the lens design for intuitive control over exposure settings from the lens itself.

Normal-length prime is designed for full-frame Canon RF-mount mirrorless digital cameras.
Exceptionally bright f/1.2 maximum aperture affords extensive control over depth of field for selective focus applications and also benefits working in low-light situations.
One UD (Ultra-Low Dispersion) element is featured, and helps to minimize chromatic aberrations and color fringing in order to provide greater clarity and color accuracy.
An aspherical element is used to correct spherical aberrations and distortion for improved sharpness and accurate rendering.
Ring-type Ultrasonic Motor (USM), along with optimized focusing algorithms and a high-speed CPU, is employed to deliver fast, precise, and quiet autofocus performance as well as full-time manual focus override.
Configurable Control Ring can be used to adjust a variety of exposure settings, including aperture, ISO, and exposure compensation.
As a member of the esteemed L-series, this lens has a weather-resistant design that protects against dust and moisture to enable its use in inclement conditions.
Rounded 10-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality.

Hands Down The Best RF Prime Lens

If you're a wedding photographer like myself, you definitely need to get your hands on this prime lens. It's a bokeh beast and, unlike the RF 85mm, it provides a lot more versatility when it comes to shooting in tight spaces as well as including landscapes and backgrounds during portrait sessions. Not light but not heavy at all and great as walk-around lens as well. The ONLY regret you'll have is not purchasing it.

Amazing in low light settings and provides unmatched depth of field. I f could only have one lens, it would be this one.

This lens makes magic

I always purchased the cheap f/1.8 fifty-fifty for every camera system, and I loved them. I figured what difference would a third of a stop of light make? This lens is the most fun, sharpest, bit of glass I've ever put on the front of a camera. Paired with a camera like the R5 you'll get a field of view and depth of field that will bring to mind the look of 80mm on medium format. The color, and contrast is amazing. Autofocus with and without eye detection is amazing and nails perfect focus almost every time. I absolutely love this lens, it barely leaves my camera since it arrived.

Stunningly good

I had a 5D Mark IV that I used primarily for nightscapes / street photography for years. I got the EF f/1.2 50mm to shoot with and instantly fell in love with it. The buttery textures, delightful bokeh, gigantic aperture... I loved pretty much everything about it. I expected the RF f/1.2 50mm to be pretty much the same, but it absolutely blew me out of the water. It had all the best parts of the EF 1.2 but the biggest difference is that it's TACK sharp at f1.2. I was stunned at the difference in quality. This lens is an absolute beast and when paired with my R5's AF systems, it's a match made in heaven. Sooooo worth the $$ I haven't had the chance to take it out for night shots yet, but I attached a picture I took at max aperture at an aquarium the other day.

Made the upgrade to this lens and it was the best thing I've invested in for my photography business! I use it on an R6 and I never miss focus! The photos are almost perfect straight out of camera!

So far I love it

I am just starting out in this beautiful hobby. I received a Canon R5 camera as a present last year and initially got the inexpensive RF 50mm f/1.8 Canon offers and I thought it might be nice upgrade now. What can I say, I loved this lens right away. It is very fast and very sharp. I don't have anything to complain about other than the weight but I understand I can't have everything.

Buying Cine Lenses for Canon. Does this lens have a long focus throw? Does this lens have smooth F/T Stop transition, instead of "click" stops? For smooth transition of focus and depth of field?
Asked by: al
Sorry but this is not a cine lens. It is all electronic control with no scales. It would not work on a pro set for the assistant would have no way of controlling the focus or stop. If you want a Canon cine lens here is the link. https://bhpho.to/2A5NLe5
