Distinguished by its speed, the RF 50mm f/1.2 L USM from Canon is a desirable normal-length prime due to its versatile focal length and bright f/1.2 maximum aperture. This fast design excels in difficult lighting conditions and also benefits working with shallow depth of field and selective focus techniques. The optical layout incorporates one UD element and one aspherical element, which help to reduce both chromatic and spherical aberrations in order to produce greater clarity and sharpness. A rounded 10-blade diaphragm also benefits bokeh quality to suit isolating subjects with depth of field. Complementing the imaging capabilities is an apt ring-type Ultrasonic Motor, which delivers fast, near-silent autofocus and full-time manual focus override. Additionally, a unique Control Ring is integrated into the lens design for intuitive control over exposure settings from the lens itself.
- RF-Mount Lens/Full-Frame Format

Canon RF 50mm f/1.2L USM Reviews
Amazing bokeh!
A lens that lives up to the hype.
A Magic Lens
Long ago I had the Otus 55mm and thought I'd never again encounter such an artful lens. This Canon RF slightly outdoes the Otus in my experience and has the advantage of terrific autofocus on my R5. I am inspired every time I take it out, which is often. Heavy? Yes! Who cares? It makes beautiful beautiful images.
Sharp, Sharp and more Sharp
Only got to use it once so far but was surprised as heck at the sharpness at 1.2.
AMAZING!
Made the upgrade to this lens and it was the best thing I've invested in for my photography business! I use it on an R6 and I never miss focus! The photos are almost perfect straight out of camera!
So far I love it
I am just starting out in this beautiful hobby. I received a Canon R5 camera as a present last year and initially got the inexpensive RF 50mm f/1.8 Canon offers and I thought it might be nice upgrade now. What can I say, I loved this lens right away. It is very fast and very sharp. I don't have anything to complain about other than the weight but I understand I can't have everything.
Hands Down The Best RF Prime Lens
If you're a wedding photographer like myself, you definitely need to get your hands on this prime lens. It's a bokeh beast and, unlike the RF 85mm, it provides a lot more versatility when it comes to shooting in tight spaces as well as including landscapes and backgrounds during portrait sessions. Not light but not heavy at all and great as walk-around lens as well. The ONLY regret you'll have is not purchasing it.
Great lens
Absolutely love this lens. I use it primarily for portraits. The DOF is great. Have done rock band photos in low light and baby photos where I wanted shallow DOF. Being a prime lens it is extremely sharp too. It is heavy though. I don't take it on too many trips.
Yes!
perfect lens for portrait
