Extending the range of compatible lenses, this Canon Drop-In Filter Mount Adapter EF-EOS R is a unique lens adapter designed for attaching any EF or EF-S-mount lens to the EOS R mirrorless digital camera. This sophisticated adapter affords compatibility with select A-type drop-in filters, and includes a variable neutral density filter for greater control over your exposure settings.

The adapter's design extends the ability to use filters with unique lenses that cannot accept filters on the front, and and it also retains full autofocus and image stabilization capabilities of the mounted lens. It is also dust- and water-resistant, making it suitable for use in harsh weather conditions.

How does the variable neutral density filter work ...

How does the variable neutral density filter work with ultra wides like the 11-24mm or 16-35mm? Normally front mounted variable e neutral density filters aren't usable with such wide lenses but wondering if being mounted on the rear of the lens solves or improves these issues?

Is there a version of the drop-in filter mount that adopts PL lenses to RF?

This Fotodiox adapter is for PL lens to Canon RF camera and it has a built in ND filter. The filter is not drop in though. There isn't a version with drop in for that combination. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1486458-REG/fotodiox_pl_eosr_ndthrtl_cine_vizelex_nd_throttle_lens.html

The focal length will not change and you will not lose any light other than using the nd, which cuts out 1.5-9 stops of light.

Does this seriously not come with a cover for when the filter is not in place? That would be Canon's ultra-stingy style.

It would be much smater to develop a variable drop-in variable ND filter starting at 0.0 optical density. (this Canon actually starts at 1.5). Then, the ND could stay put at all times without the need to buy a clear filter in separate. Now, if you want to save some $300+ dollars you can use the multi-shoot high dynamic range (HDR) method. As an alternative to split graduated neutral density filters, some digital cameras offer built-in HDR which allow the camera to capture and then combine different exposures of the same subject matter when shooting in RAW image format. However, as long as a sufficiently short exposure time is available, it is possible to exactly mimic the effect of a graduated neutral density filter by using two exposures of the same scene one or several stops apart and blending them with a graduated mask in an image editor. This method has the advantage that the shape of the mask can be freely defined in editing.

No, it will not. If you plan to connect a Canon EF-mount lens onto the Canon EOS R5 C Mirrorless Cinema Camera, you may use either the Canon Drop-In Filter Mount Adapter EF-EOS R with Variable ND Filter on your EF-mount lens or you may use the Canon Control Ring Mount Adapter EF-EOS R on your EF-mount lens, but you cannot use both on the lens at the same time.

No, there is no a clear filter incorporated within this variable ND filter. You can get a separate clear filter and also a separate polarizing filter. It would have been nice to have a clear filter incorporated into the variable ND filter as well as in the polarizer, but such is not the case. To get clear, you must use the separate clear drop in filter.

Yes Eye Autofocus will work on the EOS R5/R6 with this adapter attached.
