Canon Drop-in Clear Filter A Reviews

A necessity for Run & Gun video

Like many long time Canon owners (since 1971 for me) we have all accumulated a significant amount of EF glass. To provide an affordable transition to RF glass I found the EF to RF adapter a necessity. I purchased the Canon Drop-In Filter Mount Adapter with Variable ND Filter for use with my Canon R5. As a lower cost alternative to the Canon C70 and using the EF 24-70 F/2.8 II, the ND filter became a good combination. When recording either indoors or under low light the ND filter had to be replaced with a clear A drop in filter. Weight and space is always a concern when traveling and this appeared to be the best alternative for run and gun situations. My only complaint is the cost. It seems that $65 would be more reasonable price for a clear filter and frame.

I'm not convinced these seal flawlessly. in terms of keeping out dust when installed. But it seems to be fine. I prefer using this instead of changing the entire mount out when not in need of a drop-in Pola or ND.

I am more concerning about the image quality and autofocus speed when using this clear filter. Does it degrade the image quality of the captured image? Does it slow down the autofocus speed at all?

I have had some weird flare when the lens is hit with direct sunlight, but other than that, it rarely shows up. I've been using it heavily since Jan 2021

Why not use a snug fitting $5 rubber lens band over the slot when a filter is not desired instead of using this $130 piece of clear glass?
Asked by: David
The drop in adapter is .1 inch thicker than the other Canon adapters. From my test, taking out the filter significantly affects the focus range.

Why does it even need the glass? Should just be the slot cover. More glass = more potential for flare.
Asked by: Matt
Even though seems useless you need it. Don't get the covers sold in amazon since without this your lens will not reach infinity focus below 35mm, as one of the answer says, fixes the optical formula due the thickness of the VND or CPL..

Does this come with a case or pouch for the filter? The ND RF/EF adapter does not have anywhere to place the filter when it's out.
Asked by: Christopher
It does come with a plastic case than it can be stored in, if you want more protection, could always get a mini hard case for these as well.
