Canon XF705 Reviews

Coming from the XF-305

This was the logical upgrade when I needed 4kUHD. The recording formats are still terrible but the recent release of the M1 Mac and an update to Resolve finally allows realtime playback and editing for a single camera feed. Prior to this I would spend hours transcoding. The 1 inch sensor appears to make up for the loss of light from the slower glass on the 705 compared to the 305. In the end I appear to be able to get cleaner images in low light which is nice. The ability to record 4 channels of audio was also welcome meaning I can connect two XLR sources and still use the internal microphone for scratch audio or connect a stereo mic to the 1/8 input. I wish the LCD could get brighter when we have to shoot outdoors. Will be looking for a sunshade solution. Autofocus has worked extremely well on a few random run and gun type setups where focus distances were constantly changing. Knowing which face was being automatically used and being able to change it on the fly was very helpful along with the new focusing guide telling you if you were short or long on the focus when doing manual adjustments. I don't think the price tag is valid for what it is anymore but if you are looking for a 12g SDI UHD camera for live events with fantastic autofocus and solid low light its a contender.

This has everything I wanted in a pick up and shoot, quality camera. The image stabilization when zoomed all the way in is great. The autofocus is excellent. Being able to record in Log is great too.

Does xf705 has same zoom servo motor like in xf305? You can get beautiful slow zooms just like in Hollywood with exellent old workinghorse xf305. Very good studio camera also with that option..
Asked by: Janne
We imagine that he servo motors in the XF705 will work just as well as they do in the XF305. This is designed to be a great work horse camcorder that is the 4K upgrade to the XF305.

What's the Canon XF705 ISO BASE ?
Asked by: Claudio
The XF705 is a ENG Style Camcorder, traditionally these kinds of camcorders do not have ISO as a setting as they are not trying to duplicate Film Speeds. To raise your exposure beyond what your IRIS can offer the setting of Gain will be used, with the optimal setting being 0 db.

Asked by: Donald
Yes, the Canon XF705 4K 1" Sensor XF-HEVC H.265 Pro Camcorder can record internally, and if you add an external recorder like the Atomos Shogun 7 BH #ATSG7 you would be able to make internal and external recordings simultaneously.
