Canon SX70 HS Reviews

A bit of a disappointment

I've had this camera for about 1 year and it has not lived up to expectation. Pro's: 1) will take nice zoom pictures if the subject doesn't have much movement. 2) real phone support is available. There are two cons, 1) it does not appear possible to capture a sharp picture of a bird in flight (which was one of goals for purchase) 2) even at low iso's (e.g. 160), the camera will smudge detail.

Husband got one too

We used a Nikon P-900 but I hated the viewfinder and couldn't stand the shutter lag after taking a photo. This has a great viewfinder and you can set it for single shots with zero time lag. I can continue to see the scene, and I can take another shot before my duck floats away. My husband saw the differences, including lighter weight, and he bought one to take jogging. Also, very comfortable hand grip. Pic quality is nothing like a DSLR. Only works really well in bright sun. Don't expect to add filters. They stupidly omitted a screw for filters. The available adaptor was nearly impossible to install, and is super flimsy. I'll post pics from my husband's latest jog.

Upgrade to SX70 from SX60

I upgraded to the SX70 from SX60 and enjoy the additional features. However, I didn't do enough homework and was disappointed to find that Canon changed the RAW format from CR2 to CR3. Meaning, I can no longer use Adobe Photoshop to edit the photos. This camera is easy to use and has nice zoom capabilities, especially if I want to photograph birds in the distance.

Great little camera

So far, not a lot of experience yet, I am pleased with what it can do (zoom) and the quality of the photos. Works great for my intended purposes and capability. Maybe a little complex due to the capabilities, but is workable.

Nice Step Up!!

I am still stuck in automatic mode, but this is a nice step up and will allow me to venture out into other modes. The clarity of the images are amazing! The super zoom is awesome! The extra battery and other items in the deluxe kit are great to have on hand!

Great True Color, Zoom and AF

In addition to this new Powershot SX70, I'm also an owner of a Nikon P900 purchased in 2015, and a Canon SX730HS purchased in 2017. I love both of my older cameras, but the SX70 is my new favorite. It gives me beautiful colors, and higher MP and nearly as much zoom as the Nikon P900. The Canon SX730HS is higher MP than my Nikon, and is also lighter weight, making it so much easier to hike with. Love the truer colors that I get with that, but my zoom on the P900 has often been needed to capture photos of large animals from a safe & respectful distance. I've missed a few shots with the smaller zoom of the SX730HS, and that was tough to swallow. Enter the Powershot SX70, and I feel like I have the best of both worlds. This lightweight bridge camera has EVF, which is important for me to help stabilize the camera; the little SX730HS doesn't have an EVF. The SX70 also has a fully articulating screen like the P900. The image stabilization of the Canon Powershot SX70 HS is great, as is the stils frame rate of 10 fps. I've barely begun to learn about this new camera's capabilities, and looking forward to learning more. I've gotten alot of shots I'm really pleased with, using this new addition to my hobbyist photography.

BEWARE. Canon no longer manufactures & warranty problems!

Bought in Feb. Stopped working in June. Went onto Canon site & registered it & called the number given for repairs. A human (not a recording) told me that they no longer manufacture this model & therefore do not honor the warranty! I called B&H and got a different # to call Canon that said they DO honor warranties. I WOULD NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT.
