Sony FE 24mm f/1.4 GM Overview

By B&H Photo's
Fast and Portable Wide-Angle
Combining a favored wide-angle focal length with an especially bright design, the FE 24mm f/1.4 GM from Sony is a fast, versatile lens well-suited to landscape, astrophotography, and street shooting applications. Its wide-but-usable perspective is complemented by the f/1.4 maximum aperture and the lens is also distinguished by a sleek, portable profile for all-day shooting.
G Master Optical Performance
  • As part of Sony's esteemed G Master series, this lens is designed to achieve notably high resolution and sharpness through the correction of a wide variety of spherical and chromatic aberrations.
  • Notably fast f/1.4 maximum aperture benefits working in difficult lighting conditions and also affords increased control over depth of field.
  • Rounded 11-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality when employing selective focus techniques.
  • Two XA elements are incorporated into the optical design, which features superior surface precision for effective control over astigmatism, field curvature, coma, and other spherical aberrations.
  • Three extra-low dispersion elements are featured in the lens design and help to reduce chromatic aberrations and color fringing for improved clarity and color neutrality.
  • Nano AR Coating has been applied to reduce surface reflections, flare, and ghosting for increased contrast in strong lighting conditions.
Responsive AF and Intuitive Handling
  • Direct Drive Super Sonic wave Motor AF system and internal focus mechanism provides quick, quiet, and precise autofocus performance and also contributes to more natural, intuitive manual focus control.
  • A focus hold button is present on the lens barrel for intuitive tactile control and rapid access to select settings.
  • Physical aperture ring can be de-clicked for smooth, silent aperture switching to benefit video applications.
  • Dust- and moisture-sealed design better permits working in inclement conditions and rubberized control rings benefit handling in colder temperatures.
  • Fluorine-coated front element resists dust, moisture, and fingerprints and is easy to clean.

Sony FE 24mm f/1.4 GM Reviews

Astro BEAST!!!!

TACK SHARP!! Initially I purchased this lens solely for astrophotography, but over time it has become more than just a lens I use at night. The focal length as well as the very wide-open aperture are fantastic. The wide aperture allows a large amount of light in while the 24mm focal length makes my subject powerful, while not diminishing things in the distance too much, and still giving you an ample amount of sky. Stars and the night sky look incredible when shot through this lens, it seems like it picks up more stars than any other of my lenses. I also really like that I can focus super close to a subject, with the minimum focusing distance being just under a foot. Combining that close focus, with a low aperture, you can really make a subject stand out while making everything in the distance totally disappear no matter how busy.

Incredible Video and Pictures

This lens instantly turned my videos into something spectacular. If you were looking for a lens to make your content stand out...this is the one. It is my go-to for making eye-catching visuals. No other lens captures a scene like this one. The low light performance of the A7S3 plus this lens, makes the most amazing low light captures look like a Hollywood film scene. It's that good. The lens is lightweight and compact. Just this lens alone, I can get about 80% of an event captured. The rest are just tighter or telephoto shots. I did a lot of research before getting this lens because I needed one to capture groups and close-quarter wide angles, especially in dark-lit places...like wedding after parties. This lens is absolutely amazing. The images are insanely sharp. The bokeh is so dramatic at f1.4. I consider this lens an absolute necessity for anyone with a Sony and would buy it again and again. This is now my most used lens. Thank you, Sony and B&H!

Amazing lens for environmental portraits

I absolutely love this lens. After trying the Sony 24-70 f/2.8, I just felt that I needed a faster lens and the crisp beauty that only a prime can offer. I did a B&W photoshoot keeping the lens wide open at 1.4 the entire time, and still got incredible sharp images even with fast motion in my subjects. I decided to pay a bit more for this lens than the competing Sigma Art DG DN just because it is smaller and better for travel. Right now this is the lens that lives on the body of my Sony a7iv since it's so small, versatile and capable.

Sony FE 24mm f/1.4 GM IS THE BEAST

Game-Changing for Night Sky and Wide Field Astrophotography

I loved this lens the second i unboxed it and tested it on my Sony a7riii, and it really is an absolute game-changer, especially for night sky photography. It's my go-to lens now for shooting Milky Way and the Northern Lights, and really anything that involves the night sky. It focuses sharp and crisp on stars the first time and I never have to adjust it further no matter how long I'm out shooting, even all night and moving locations and taking on/off the tripod. If you're considering this lens or comparing to other manufacturers' options for your Sony full frame, don't hesitate for a second, this is a fantastic lens all around. See my photos here as proof of what you can capture!

24 mm G Master : tack sharp , wide angle helps me get it all in one shot. Combined with Sony’s G master quality, this lens is thought to beat.

This lens would work very well for shooting landscapes, but whether it is wide enough depends on the Sony E mount camera you're using and how much of the frame you would like to capture.
