Fast and Portable Wide-Angle

G Master Optical Performance
  • As part of Sony's esteemed G Master series, this lens is designed to achieve notably high resolution and sharpness through the correction of a wide variety of spherical and chromatic aberrations.
  • Notably fast f/1.4 maximum aperture benefits working in difficult lighting conditions and also affords increased control over depth of field.
  • Rounded 11-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality when employing selective focus techniques.
  • Two XA elements are incorporated into the optical design, which features superior surface precision for effective control over astigmatism, field curvature, coma, and other spherical aberrations.
  • Three extra-low dispersion elements are featured in the lens design and help to reduce chromatic aberrations and color fringing for improved clarity and color neutrality.
  • Nano AR Coating has been applied to reduce surface reflections, flare, and ghosting for increased contrast in strong lighting conditions.
Responsive AF and Intuitive Handling
  • Direct Drive Super Sonic wave Motor AF system and internal focus mechanism provides quick, quiet, and precise autofocus performance and also contributes to more natural, intuitive manual focus control.
  • A focus hold button is present on the lens barrel for intuitive tactile control and rapid access to select settings.
  • Physical aperture ring can be de-clicked for smooth, silent aperture switching to benefit video applications.
  • Dust- and moisture-sealed design better permits working in inclement conditions and rubberized control rings benefit handling in colder temperatures.
  • Fluorine-coated front element resists dust, moisture, and fingerprints and is easy to clean.

Game-Changing for Night Sky and Wide Field Astrophotography

I loved this lens the second i unboxed it and tested it on my Sony a7riii, and it really is an absolute game-changer, especially for night sky photography. It's my go-to lens now for shooting Milky Way and the Northern Lights, and really anything that involves the night sky. It focuses sharp and crisp on stars the first time and I never have to adjust it further no matter how long I'm out shooting, even all night and moving locations and taking on/off the tripod. If you're considering this lens or comparing to other manufacturers' options for your Sony full frame, don't hesitate for a second, this is a fantastic lens all around. See my photos here as proof of what you can capture!

Very sharp even wide open, but unfortunately decentered.

I have the superb Zeiss Batis 25mm f/2 but decided to purchase this lens because it collects more light wide open which is ideal for astrophotography. Unfortunately typical for Sony lenses, this lens too, is decentered. One corner out of four extreme corners is significantly softer. This is now the fourth very expensive Sony lens with which I have noticed this problem. This lens is not as badly decentered as the previous ones and I decided to keep it. However, I slightly regret the purchase because this lens also has some coma aberration. The Zeiss Batis is absolutely centered, is sharper in the corners wide open and has virtually no coma aberration. Something to consider before purchasing this lens. I hope Sony will improve on its manufacturing quality which at this point is no match to any of the Zeiss lenses I own.

One of the best Sony primes for video

I bought this lens a few months ago and it has been my go to for client work. I do mainly videos for businesses and the wide focal range, combined with the f/1.4 aperture give a unique look to the videos. The sharpness wide open is amazing, however I'd suggest stepping down to f/1.8 to f/2.8 for better results.

sharp lens, nice size

I've used this for landscapes and architecture/general purpose. I wanted a prime lens that I could carry without having a ton of weight, and the quality on this seemed a lot higher than the pancake lenses. I wish Sony would make more prime lenses around this size rather than the big heavy ones.

Stunning Images from this lens

The rendering and the sharpness right out to the corners are simply fantastic. The images look like they are from a medium format camera on my A7rIII! My copy has significant noise from the Aperture blades stopping down, and some quick research online says that I am not alone, but I can only hear it when I am focusing on AF-S in a very quiet room.

Amazing lens for environmental portraits

I absolutely love this lens. After trying the Sony 24-70 f/2.8, I just felt that I needed a faster lens and the crisp beauty that only a prime can offer. I did a B&W photoshoot keeping the lens wide open at 1.4 the entire time, and still got incredible sharp images even with fast motion in my subjects. I decided to pay a bit more for this lens than the competing Sigma Art DG DN just because it is smaller and better for travel. Right now this is the lens that lives on the body of my Sony a7iv since it's so small, versatile and capable.
