Sigma 60-600mm f/4.5-6.3 DG OS HSM Sports Overview

A single zoom covering a huge 10x range, the Sigma SA-mount Sigma 60-600mm f/4.5-6.3 DG OS HSM Sports Lens is a versatile optic well-suited for a variety of subjects, including portraiture, sports, and wildlife. Its advanced optical design incorporates one SLD element and three FLD elements, which help to greatly suppress chromatic aberrations and color fringing throughout the zoom range for improved clarity and color accuracy. A Super Multi-Layer Coating has also been applied to individual elements to control flare and ghosting when working in strong lighting conditions.

Complementing the optical performance is a Hyper Sonic Motor that provides quick and a quiet autofocus performance, along with an Intelligent OS system that minimizes the appearance of camera shake by up to four stops. The physical design of the lens also incorporates several seals to guard against dust and moisture, and a water- and oil-repellent coating has been applied to the exposed elements to prevent moisture, fingerprints, or smudges from sticking to the surface.

As part of the Sports line within Sigma's Global Vision series, this lens is designed to offer excellent optical performance, speed, and other customizable features that make it an ideal choice for wildlife, sports, action, and other fast-moving subjects.
Wide-ranging super telephoto zoom is designed for full-frame Sigma SA-mount cameras, however is also suitable for APS-C models where it provides a 90-900mm equivalent focal length range.
One Special Low Dispersion (SLD) element and three F Low Dispersion (FLD) elements are featured in the optical design and help to reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations for improved clarity and color accuracy, as well as spherical aberrations for reduced distortion and improved sharpness throughout the zoom range.
A Super Multi-Layer Coating has been applied to lens elements in order to minimize lens flare and ghosting and contribute to producing contrast-rich and color-neutral imagery, even in backlit conditions.
Front and rear lens elements have been treated with a water- and oil-repellent coating to benefit working in harsh environmental conditions.
Rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a smooth and pleasing bokeh quality.
The integrated HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor) realizes quick and quiet autofocusing, which is further complemented by an optimized AF algorithm to produce smoother focusing performance. The HSM also permits full-time manual focus control simply by rotating the focus ring at any time.
An Intelligent Optical Stabilizer system minimizes the appearance of camera shake by up to four stops to benefit making sharper imagery when shooting handheld.
The lens is constructed using a Thermally Stable Composite (TSC) material, along with traditional metals, for greater precision and use in wide temperature variations.
The bayonet mount is constructed from brass for ensured accuracy and durability. Additionally, rubber sealing is incorporated in the mount design to render it dust- and splash-resistant.
Tripod collar has a rotating design and the replaceable foot is Arca-type compatible for easy mounting.
This lens is compatible with the optional Sigma USB Dock for fine-tuning different lens characteristics and updating its firmware.
Compatible with optional Sigma 1.4x and 2x teleconverters.

Sigma 60-600mm f/4.5-6.3 DG OS HSM Sports Reviews

The World's Most Versatile Zoom Lens!

Six years ago, I picked up this zoom lens for daytime media, sports, and wildlife photography, originally pairing it with my Canon 1DX2. Over time, it became a trusted companion on my Canon R3 mirrorless camera and now serves me well with the Canon R5 II using the EF/RF adaptor. Unfortunately, an accidental drop a month ago left the lens beyond repair, but thanks to my insurance, I received a new replacement purchased from B&H. Reflecting on its performance, the Sigma 60-600mm stands out for its remarkably steady image stabilization and impressive sharpness. While 600mm f/4 lenses can demand a hefty price, this Sigma achieves the same focal length at f/6.3—requiring a slight ISO bump but saving thousands compared to prime options. Autofocus is lightning-fast and tracks flawlessly on the Canon R5 II. My only minor gripe is the slightly long zoom throw, though it’s easy to get accustomed to. Ultimately, this remains my go-to lens for any event where zooming in tight is essential. Highly recommended for its versatility, reliable performance, and price point that keeps your wallet happy.

This lens was my own Christmas gift with the main purpose of bird photography. The result went well above expectations and I'm looking to use it almost every spare day I have, always with amazing results. This lens has taken me to a whole new world on photography. I share one of my first pictures with this lens.

Does the lens foot come off? How would one mount rods and a lens support to this on say a Red Dsmc2 camera? What size rods? Woudk the lens foot be in the way?
Asked by: matt
Yes, the Tripod collar has a rotating design and the replaceable foot is Arca-type compatible for easy mounting. You can use any universal lens support made for 15mm or 19mm rods. You could use 10 inch or longer rods. Since the collar is replaceable, it will not interfere with this setup.

what possibility of using this lens with the camera Sony a 9 ? will I loose some of the functions ??
Asked by: Pilar
I would recommend choosing this lens with a Canon mount (item code SI606004563C) and using a Canon to Sony lens adapter. You will have all functions, however the autofocus may be a bit slower.

Can this lens be used for motor racing events?? I currently use a prime 300 2.8 is i need to add tele converter to make it longer and remove it when i do not need it. or what do you suggest for 2nd option lens??
Asked by: John
Yes this 60-600 would work well for motor racing if you currently use 300mm 2.8 and want a longer or wider lens where you easily zoom. The downside is the aperture it narrower on the 60-600 so not as good in low light. Motor racing during the day shouldn't be a problem though. Another option would be a Sigma 150-600 Sports if you don't need to go as wide as 60mm. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1082152-REG/sigma_150_600mm_f_5_6_3_dg_os.html

It has two holes as commented earlier. However, the foot is designed for a quick release mount. Why would you not put a QR clamp on your tripod or monopod for interchangeability or convenience?
