Cokin CP004 overview

  • 1Description

The Cokin P Series Green 0.8 Filter is designed for use with a Cokin P Series Filter Holder. It can be used to increase image contrast between green-colored subjects versus red-colored subjects when photographing using a film camera system with black-and-white film installed. Additionally, various hues among green-colored subjects can be effectively separated into black-and-white tones.

When using this filter, wavelengths of visible light that are apparent as red and violet colors to the human eye are suppressed, while visible light associated with green, yellow, orange and blue colors are able to more easily pass though the Cokin P Series Green 0.8 Filter and into the lens it is mounted in front of. When photographing with this filter along with black-and-white film, red and violet-colored subjects within a scene are reproduced in dark shades of grey than if a filter was not used. Simultaneously, green, yellow, orange, and blue subjects are rendered in lighter shades of grey.

When applied to black-and-white photography, shades from green within foliage can be discerned, skies become lighted while clouds are made less distinguishable, and the appearance of freckles or any skin pigmentation is intensified.

This filter has a 0.8 density and reduces light from entering a lens by 2.6 stops. It is made of durable, optical resin (CR39) and measures 1.6mm thick.

    Cokin CP004 reviews

P Series Green 0.8 Filter (2.6 Stop) is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Pros: It does what it is supposed to do. It is a simple filter and nothing more. As long as you know when to use it, it does the job. I like that it fits all of my lenses with only the need for an adapter ring. It also works great for wide angle lenses as there is no ring to cause vignetting. It also works great when stacking with a ND or Grad. Cons: Cheap plastic tends to scratch easily. The clarity of the filter is not the greatest either.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Essential for B & W film Have started shooting medium format film landscapes. Appreciate the ease of switching out filters with cokin system and green is one of essential filters used in B&W. My shots haven't been such a brillant green, the green filter has only brought out more of the contrast in my foliage.
