Fantastic Small Camera

I love my new Panasonic GX9 and the 12-60mm Lumix kit lens. I was using a full Frame Nikon for years with great results, but I got tired of lugging all that weight around. I wanted a small but good quality camera system to replace the Nikon, and I found the right camera for me. I have been using the GX9 for only 2 weeks now, and I love almost everything about the camera. I love the small size and weight; the high-quality look and feel; the well laid out controls; the easy to learn menu system; the very high percentage of keepers; the great dual image stabilization, and the surprisingly good quality of larger prints taken with the kit lens. It is so easy to take good looking photos with this camera that I can concentrate on the artistic side of my hobby. I was planning to buy the 12-60mm Leica lens and give the kit lens to my son, but I may keep the kit lens. The photos are only a little less detailed than with the Nikon system. I just ordered the Lumix 100-300mm f4-5.6 and can't wait to receive it. Things I don't love (but don't hate): the EVF is small and the built-in flash is not great. As with other M 4/3 cameras, it does not perform well at high ISO. I hate noise, and would not use the camera above ISO 400. But overall, a great system. I have my hobby back.

My last camera was for my college photo class...a 1986 Pentax K1000, film! After that, all I used was basic point n' shoot or phone cameras. This is a big learning curve for me, but so far, it's pretty intuitive! I need to do a little more studying and playing for sure. It's lightweight, the screen is a great size! I really think this was the perfect choice for a novice like me! Plus, I love that it looks a bit like my vintage Pentax :-)

I bought this to supplement/replace my gm1 body. I like the GM1 for being so small but it can be a bit fiddly to shoot in manual since there is only one control dial and the colors are often not as vibrant as I would like. This camera is bulkier but has wonderful color saturation, is much easier to dial in exactly as I would like and is notably faster in shooting speed. I was also able to link it to my phone which is something that never seemed to work quite right on the GM1 and I really like on the gx9. It would be nice if this camera came with a few additional accessories, a fast charger for the battery and perhaps a memory card in particular, but the quality for the price is excellent. Over all I am quite satisfied with my purchase and looking forward to getting lots of use out of this body.

I own the Fujifilm X-T3, and was looking for a backup camera, smaller and easier to take along while on a hike or cycling. This Lumix DC-GX9 is a nicely laid out camera, with a menu system that is logical, and performs to my liking. I've had no issue with the camera. Just one man's opinion.

Superb choice for food and travel journalist

Moved up from DMC-GX1 for continued small form factor and the integrated LVF. (Used the auxiliary on GX1.) The HDR works spectacularly well for food shots in dim restaurants. Every shooter differs, but the 12-60 is a good choice for everyday work, while adding my 50-200 to the bag gives me plenty of telephoto length without carting a lot of gear. Wish the battery life was better, so I bought a 3rd party charger and 3 extra batteries to get through a full day of active shooting. Using it is like a flashback to Leica rangefinder days, but with digital bells and whistles.

Perfect travel camera

This camera is small, light and compact, exactly what i wanted for travel, and street photography. Don't let it's size fool you though, this camera is full of great features, it also produces fantastic color, and sharp clean images. Great menu system, lots of customizable options, and the 12-60 kit lens is as good as it gets imo, certainly better than the kit lenses i have seen from other manufactures. All in all great value for money, and the silver is really cool.

As a decidated Fuji x100v and xt2, I decided to purchased this camera with the 12-60 lens instead of the Fuji 16-80 lens for my x2. It lightened the load and gave great image quality. Recently, I decided to purchase the sigma 56 f1.4 lens and this is the best lowlight lens I ever owned it works beautifully on the GX9 what a nice camera

I use this along with my fuji x100v on the street. I have this camera often with the small Olympus 45mm f1.8 when i need distance on the street. I really love the adjustable viewfinder works great and I also love the outside ring of the exposure compensation dial and the lever on the back of the camera to switch between afs and manual. It fits very nicely in the had and the images are very good

Is the menu hard to understand and apply? Auto face detection. How does that work?
Asked by: Harvey
Hello, Harvey! You can switch the AF modes by pressing the left arrow on the camera, then you can choose the Face/Eye Detection. The camera automatically detects the faces and eyes of subjects and it adjusts the focus on the eye that is closer to the camera and the exposure using the face. Also, when the camera recognized a face, the AF area and eye used for focusing are displayed. Hope this helps! -C

How is the image sharpness ? Does the 12-60MM produce good images? Low light? Any issues? Quality and reliability?
Asked by: Harvey
Hi, Harvey! Dual I.S.2 is helping to achieve the utmost sharpness when photographing handheld, Dual I.S.2 combines the GX9's 5-axis sensor-shift image stabilization technology with lens-based image stabilization to compensate for a broader range of movement types to render sharper, clearer imagery. Also, the lens also utilizes a trio of aspherical elements and one extra-low dispersion element to minimize spherical and chromatic aberrations for increased clarity and sharpness. Asked by: Harvey
Hello, Harvey! The Lumix GX9 is a capable camera for macro photography, especially when paired with a dedicated macro lens. This model has a high-resolution mode that can capture images at 80 megapixels. This mode can be useful for macro photography as it combines multiple images to create a single high-resolution image with more detail and clarity. -M

I currently have a GX8, which I love. My brother wants to buy a camera like mine except that Panasonic no longer sells the GX8. Is this GX9 an upgrade to the GX8. What are the differences?
Asked by: Tom
The GX9 is not the successor of the GX8. It is not weather sealed. The GX9 is really the replacement for the GX85.
