FotodioX EZ-Pro Softbox 32x48" Overview

The 32 x 48" EZ-Pro Softbox with Soft Diffuser for Metz Flashes from FotodioX is part of a line softboxes that are designed for ease of use. They are great for travelling and location photographers requiring a quick and easy setup. The softbox features a collapsible umbrella like structure with heavy duty rod support. Almost instant setup, open the softbox like an umbrella, snap the speed ring into place on the light and you're done.

The baffle and outer diffuser can stay on the light while in storage so it's always ready to use. Tear down is a breeze too. Just remove the softbox from the light and release the umbrella-like mechanism inside (if a grid is attached, remove that first),and the softbox collapses right down. The diffusion panels can be kept in place during take down since they do not need to be removed before collapsing the softbox. The EZ-Pro also comes with its own carrying bag. The optional eggcrate grid contains the light to a more tubular pattern for more of a spotlight effect without light spill.

    Carry a Screwdriver and Pliers

    I own 4 EZ-Pro softboxes. 2 9x36, and 2 32x48, all purchased from B&H. The speedring for the Bowens mount does not fit properly for all 4 units. The ring is small enough that there is too much play, washers to hold it in place are too small. The metal of the speed ring is very thin, very soft. All of this means that you need to keep a screwdriver and pliers in your pocket during shoots. The screwdriver, because the ring will randomly let go of the soft box, dropping it on clients, and you will have to remove half of the screws to put it back together. The pliers, because the soft metal of the speed ring will need to be bent back in place. Every shoot. The boxes themselves are great, the mounts make them useless. I need a fix from the manufacturer.

    After my second use the rivets at the arm hinges broke setting up for a photoshoot. This is the third soft box with Fotodiox/Pro Studio I have had issues with. I had to come up with a make shift pin on a shoot location as a quick fix. Never again will I buy Fotodiox or Pro Studio. Spend the extra $$ and get a Wescott.

    I recently traveled with this softbox and my AD400 for some headshot shooting and once it got set up it worked like a charm. The light quality is great and my primary complaints are in getting it set up and ready to go, but for the price, it works very well. The Bowens ring mount is only actively held in by a single thumb screw (passively by some fixed washers, and the diameter between them is a little too large. Occasionally the bowens ring slips out from the thumbscrew and then spins freely in the static washers. This usually means mounting it to the flash and then doing some twisting in place to get it where you want it as it won't stay between shoots. This doesn't impact functionality once it's up on the stand though.

    Bought two of these for White Lightning studio lights. They fit perfectly and stayed on. No problem opening the softboxes. Just like opening an umbrella. The front white coverings take a bit of pulling and adjusting to get the velcro attached without any hokes peeking through. But I may get better at this with practice. There were no instructions, and I didnt need any. But if you cant figure out how to do minor assembly, then you may have a problem. Have only used them on one photo project so far. So it remains to be seen how they will hold up with time. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 at this time is because of no instructions and lack of history about their durability. But at this point, I highly recommend them. These softboxes are a good product at a good price, and do the job well.

    I bought this soft box on a recommendation from a B&H rep, and I am definitely not disappointed. It was easy to set up, and it delivers really nice light! Highly recommend!!!

    Don’t waste your money

    The washer that is supposed to hold the speed ring on is too small (as is the speed ring itself). I had to create my own rig to get the ring to stay on. The “Beauty Ring Accessory” is ALSO too small and I had to drill the hole out so it would fit on the post. Finally, the box itself does a poor job of evenly distributing light (using a Godox SL-200) because the material is so cheesy...and not in a good way. I’ve purchased many times from BH based on recommendations...first time they steered me wrong. BH should not even carry this junk...not up to their standards.

    This softbox comes with a built in ring. It is compatible with all Profoto models other than the speedlights. Anything that can take a RFI or OCF ring would work with this softbox.
