FotodioX EZ-Pro Beauty Dish Reviews
Backplate will not fit
Arrived with no instructions, had to look up on YouTube. Photogenic backplate would not work with Photogenic Studiomax lll. Had to custom fabricate modification to backplate to assemble beauty dish to moonlight. Photogenic needs to get with Fotodiox and correct this oversight.
Does not assemble...AT ALL.
I tried for over an hour to get the spring loaded rods to snap into the ring at the base of the dish. I went so far as to take the rods out of the fabric outer to eliminate any tension only to realize that the spring loaded mechanisms that are supposed to snap in are physically too short to even fit inside the given receptacle. I'm sure the light would be nice but will be returning. Disappointing.
Not recommended.
Broken rib, missing one rib, so hard to put together.
Underrated. 48 and 56 inch easy to open and close.
When used without diffusion the light quality from the white interior is far superior to silver interior collapsible boxes used with a deflection plate and no diffusion. The grid can't be used without diffusion or grid shadow lines will appear on the subject and or background in many cases. Both the 48 and 56 inch versions are very easy to open and close.
Great expectations
To be honest I haven't used it yet. But it is huge and I expect a beautiful light from it. It does however have a beauty dish like center reflector which I haven't yet figured out how to install.
Easy fold and carry bag
Easy to use pro quality result
Wanted it to be good but
I really wanted to like this as a beauty dish because it's the only brand with a white interior instead of silver. However, with just the reflector dome installed, light leaks past the dome directly to the subject off to the sides, making it unusable unless you install the front diffuser which then spreads the light and causes it to lose direction. The reflector is either not large enough, or too far away from the light. In addition, as you lock the ribs in place, the tension required becomes increasingly hard making it very difficult. Just not a good design unfortunately.
1 arrived broken, the other broke immediately
This is the worst made lighting accessory that I've come across. 1 arrived broken, the other broke immediately
