Designed for musicians, the Zoom Q2n-4K Handy Video Recorder pairs high-resolution UHD 4K video capture with up to 24-bit/96 kHz audio recording. Five FOV (field-of-view) settings and one-button recording enable you to easily capture yourself and/or your bandmates, whether for disseminating to your social media accounts or for reviewing a rehearsal or performance.

HDR (high dynamic range) technology enables you to get correctly exposed shots, keeping your subject lit properly by not exposing for brighter stage lights, etc. The versatile Zoom Q2n-4K records video as MOV files in UHD 4K at 30/25/24 fps, in 1080p at 60/50/30/25/24 fps, or in 720p at 30/25 fps, capturing onto a microSD card up to 256GB at bit rates up to 76 Mb/s.

Its fixed-focus, wide-angle lens has a native 150° FOV and five selectable FOVs for framing wide and close-up shots as you choose. A wide f/2.8 lens aperture produces clear images in dimly lit locations and is augmented by 12 selectable scene modes. Each scene corresponds to a popular performance situation like Concert Light, Jazz Club, Outdoor, Monochrome, and Sepia. An automatic setting chooses the optimal scene mode based on ambient light.

The Q2n-4K's stereo condenser mics are arranged in an X/Y pattern and can handle sound pressure levels up to 120 dB, standing up to even loud rock stages. An audio-only mode records standalone WAV files up to 24-bit/96 kHz. Audio functions include auto gain, a low-cut filter, a 3.5mm line-in/mic-in port, and a headphone output.

A micro-USB port enables you to link the Q2n-4K to your computer or iOS device (may require separately available hardware) for data transfer or for use as a high-quality webcam for streaming over the web using Facebook, YouTube Live, Twitch, or other popular streaming platforms. The HDMI port can be used for viewing your video on a large display monitor.

The Q2n-4K is powered using two separately available AA batteries, offering up to 30 minutes of recording time in UHD 4K, one hour in 1080p, or two hours at 720p. Use the bottom 1/4"-20 thread for securing the Q2n-4K to any standard tripod or to mount the separately available BCQ-2n external battery case.

Wide-Angle Lens
The Q2n-4K features a 150° f/2.8 wide-angle lens, suiting it for recording in a wide variety of lighting environments. A color LCD screen enables you to quickly frame the perfect shot or review your videos.
Audio-Only Mode
Use the Q2n-4K's 'Camera Off' setting to capture audio-only demos or live performances in stereo sound using the built-in X/Y mics.
External Connections
The Q2n-4K features a 3.5mm stereo input jack that lets you connect external mics and other audio devices. A 3.5mm stereo output jack makes it simple to listen to audio with headphones, through your home audio system, or even in your car.

To view your video recording in high definition, you can connect to an HDMI TV using the micro-HDMI type D output. A micro-USB port allows for connection to a computer or iOS device (requires separately available adapter) so you can use the Q2n-4K as a web camera for live streaming, as a USB microphone for podcasts, or as a card reader to transfer recordings (computer connection only).

Q2n-4K as Stationary GoPro replacement

My GoPro 7 was used as a default wide angle stationary camera for recording a rock concert. It became unreliable to be able to record sets of 1-1.5 hour duration at 1080p - probably got too hot and shut off. As a camera for shorter video clips, the GoPro works fine. The Q2n-4K appears to be well suited for my needs and a test run of recording for 65 minutes at 4K was fine (using USB power). The unit didn't feel hot to touch. I like the versatility of 5 zoom levels and the ability to change audio recording parameters. The LCD screen resolution isn't great for framing the shot at any zoom level. This could definitely be improved by Zoom to make it a much better camera, thus one short of a 5-star rating.

Excellent Audio - Disappointing Video

I purchased this camera for webcam use thinking it would be far better quality than my Logitech C920/Brio. The audio quality was excellent as only to be expected from any Zoom product but the video quality was very disappointing to say the least. I found the Q8 to be fairly useless in low light, meaning just in a regular room under normal conditions where the Logitech c920 works fine and deals with low light extremely well. My initial goal was to try and get better audio onto my youtube videos rather than having to use the C920 mic with is dark sounding and boxy. I was hoping the Q8 would solve this problem and help me avoid having to record audio on one device and video on another which means I have to worry about trying to sync everything up later in post. So my thoughts are as follows - The Q8 camera is basically a great audio mic for webcam use but forget the video aspect. The video quality indoor is of no use unless your in a well lit room with indoor lights. Outside in daylight it's fine but they do advertise this product for capturing music videos which I wanted it for and also for webcam use. I RETURNED it went back to using my Logitech c920 for video and a separate audio mic.

This is a great camera to set up and ignore while practicing or performing. Selections for video audio features are intuitive and easy to set. While it doesn't have the full functionality of an action video camera, the audio recording is great. I recorded solo and small group performances in a noisy restaurant and was able to get clear audio with minimal audio processing, afterwards. The microphones pickup good, natural sound from the front and collect little sound from behind the camera. I also use it as a webcam.

Convenient personal video of your playing with great sound. Set it up at arm's length and it's wide angle capture gets you in the frame. Set up several if you wish to capture live band performance. These make multicam band projects incredibly affordable.

I am very satisfied with this high quality inexpensive video recorder. The sound quality is superior to all my single portable units. Crystal Clear. The 4K video capture is a speciality and once I learn how to use it in the right settings, I will use it often. I am thrilled that you can connect this unit to a power source and not use the battery source. If you need something that will get the job done quickly and upload to the social media circuit. BUY THIS RECORDER !!! GET THE POWER CABLES THAT WORK WITH IT.

works great when used with wisdom for point-of-view shots. complaints people have usually don't take into account the $200 buck cost. video is just a reflection of light, so don't expect miracles with this fun cam if you are in the dark or have gobs of backlighting. this cam: practically invisible on stage, for a drummer shot thru cymbals on short tripod or mic stand. over drummer head for entire reverse shot of band and crowd. for high school grad videos, for wedding wide shot from balcony, reverse shots of entire sanctuary bridal party and crowd. in hallway for last looks at bride as dressed fluffed and kiss from dad before aisle walk. hidden by candle for lighting view of bride/groom faces. mount it on a 20 foot light stand with an adapter for great house left and house right band stage coverage. tips from guy who owns 9 of them: use eveready AA lithium batteries for up to about 6 hours of run time. cell aux packs and the jack have turned out to be unreliable for zero-fail shoots. use these as aux cams, use REAL cams with adjustable controls as your primary. these are ICING on the cake. also: use the FLAT setting. in editing, you will find the blowout exposure is gone, easily adjust color and blackpoint etc. do not use the other settings, but remember the pic on the cam will look awful when shooting. just know it will be fine in editing. also, do not use your old micro SD cards, seriously people. it may start recording, but will choke and auto off during your show. walmart has the black and gold trimmed sandisk of 128 gig or 256 gig cards for 20-28 bucks, has 170 meg speed on front of package. these speedy cards and lithium AA and using FLAT setting... solves most issues. don't expect a $200 toy to do what you need a 3000 to 15k camera and lens to do. as AUX POV cams, they are great, with wonderful point-source coherent audio!

The Q2n-4K can be powered by either AA batteries or USB. To power via USB, you can either use USB bus power from a computer or a Zoom AD-17 power adapter (sold separately) to connect to a wall outlet.

The Q2n-4K was built for live use and can handle levels of up to 120dB SPL. For high volume situations like this, we recommend using either the "Concert" Auto Gain setting, or manually setting the gain knob.

When using the Q2n-4K in webcam mode with the the AC Adapter plugged in the USB port, will the HDMI output be clean?

The HDMI does have a clean output, but for webcam mode the USB will need to be connected to the computer as it will be able to provide both video and power.
