Lilliput BM230 Reviews

Mediocre at best, since replaced

The viewing angle isn't great. We also have had serious QC issues (after a few weeks, the entire image turned to streaks; Lilliput's tech support talked us through removing 14 screws to re-seat a tiny ribbon cable). The same issue happened a week later. Reliability alone makes this our last monitor of choice. It is also made of the heaviest steel I swear - very heavy compared to similar monitors. Finally the case it comes with is in no way shock mounted (it is basically screwed into the wooden sides), so as a case, it is more of a cover and won't protect from any hits or drops. In the end, we replaced these with a couple LG's... an Asus/LG/Dell 4k monitor with Decimator or BMD 12G-to-HDMI adapter provides a better image, more reliability, and at a considerable better cost.

Great low priced monitor

This monitor is great for the price. Plenty of input options and I love the case that it comes in/with. It also seems surprisingly accurate. I wouldn't color grade with it, but for the crew and director to be able to see the shot on such a large 4K (UHD actually) monitor is a fantastic thing to have.

A huge headache to setup

First thing to mention is that Focus Peaking just doesn't turn on and they hope to have an update maybe someday to make it work. To load LUTs into the monitor you need their conversion software (that you have to contact support to get and then after you install the software you have to contact support again to get an unlock code for your machine [this processes takes hours to days to complete and if you ever get a new computer you have to do it all again]) All of this is to convert the LUTs to the proper 17x17x17 RGB/RGB .cube format and THEN you need to find a thumb-drive that is less than 16gb so you can format it as *FAT32* so the monitor will read it. BUT .. after all that I STILL can't get it to work. I've tried many different thumb drives and the monitor never prompts to load the LUT the way it states it should in the manual! Another warning is that MANY features of the monitor only work in SDI mode (SDI Mode ONLY; Histogram, Time Code, Exposure, Peak Settings, Audio Meters). All-in-all if you plan to use this as more than just a fancy TV on a stand I would suggest looking at another product.

Very affordable field monitor for 4K

For the money, you can't beat this monitor. We needed a 4K field monitor, but we didn't want to break the bank with something that cost more than our camera, so we started looking at the Lilliput as an option. After reading the specs and many reviews, I knew it was right for us. The only question was should we go for the 23 or the 15. With the price difference being only $100, the larger monitor seemed like the logical choice. BUT, be forewarned...it's heavy. Really heavy. The heft is largely due to the solid case built around it, but I feel like it's a fair trade-off when you see the beautiful UHD image and realize your clients aren't crowded around a 15 screen looking for detail. It's big, but it's beautiful.

Read the fine print ! NO 4K SDI

It is a good monitor for the price. HOWEVER, the SDI input is only HD - NOT 4k. After testing it for a good hour, I ended up going to the product specs and description and they negate to mention that ONLY the HDMI inputs can handle 4K. None of the others do. Now I need an SDI to HDMI converter to monitor NATIVE 4K from my camera. Good price, Does 4K, but the extra converter makes it more expensive than originally thought.

Great Production Monitor (After Some Mods)

By James

Overall, this is a great production monitor, and I'm glad to have purchased it. The biggest benefit (other than size) is the fact that it can be powered via battery or AC. That said, in order for the monitor to be placed on a rolling c-stand with a VESA mount, I needed to manually relocate the v-mount plate which was already installed by the manufacturer. After a little bit of elbow grease (and a little velcro), I was able to relocate the v-mount plate so that the monitor could be VESA-mounted and battery-powered. The monitor also comes with a sunshade that apparently is supposed to just work with the monitor. However, there are no magnets or anything on either the monitor or shade in order to make that happen...so for now, the shade is on the shelf.

Not that we are aware of. According to Lilliput you would need the Lilliput Q17 PRO 12G-SDI Broadcast/Production Monitor for such features, BH #LIQ17. https://bhpho.to/305zv2c
