  • Robus RC-8880 Vantage Series 5 Carbon Fiber Tripod

When your career depends on that next shot, you need a tripod that's much more than just three legs to stand on. Meeting and succeeding that need, we have the RC-8880 Vantage Series 5 Carbon Fiber Tripod, one of a series of tripods from Robus that delivers performance to satiate the most demanding image-makers, regardless of the conditions or terrain in the field. The 10x carbon fiber legs feature wide, stable leg tube diameters. Even at maximum extension of 80.5", these substantial cylinders combine with the tripod's anodized CNC-machined spider to support video or still camera rigs weighing up to 77 lb.

Shooting outdoors can definitely be a challenge, especially when doing macro or close up photography on the ground. But with three variable leg angles of 25, 55, and 85°, plus independent leg spread, the tripod can be splayed out to a minimum height of just 4.5". The tripod's central spider features a lock to loosen the yoke and a safety pull latch that releases the finely machined top plate. This permits interchangeability with the included 75mm video bowl. There's also an optional center column available that extends the RC-8880's maximum height to 95.25".

A quarter turn of the tripod's twist-locks retracts the 4-section legs to a reasonable folded length of 28.5". Two of the legs have tactile rubber grips that ensure a secure hold as you carry the support from one place to another. Additionally, a 3/8"-16 socket at the end of each leg allows you to swap out the standard feet for the included spikes or wide rubber feet to accommodate different terrains and surfaces.

With a possible 95" reach, a 77 lb weight capacity, and a folded length of less than 30", the tripod's notable stability and performance-based features ensure its place as a favorite go-to-support solution for professionals and dedicated enthusiasts.

    10x Carbon Fiber Legs
Provides stability and dampens vibrations, which would cause shake in the camera.
    CNC-Machined Aluminum Spider
The CNC-machined spider features a lock to loosen the yoke, and a safety pull latch that releases the top plate, which has a counterweight hook on the bottom. The anodized spider also features a strap mount, and an integrated bubble level that ensures your horizons are always leveled.
    Interchangeable Top Plates
A finely machined top plate features a smooth anodized finish, and a chamfered leading edge for ease of installation, and a 3/8"-16 threaded head mount. The 75mm bowl is interchangeable with the top plate and mounts into the spider in the same fashion. There's also an optional center column available that extends the RC-8880's maximum height to 95.25".
    All Surface Capable
Accommodate different terrains and surfaces via the three different sets of feet. The standard rubber feet, wide rubber feet, and spikes are all interchangeable via the 3/8"-16 socket at the end of each leg.
    Variable Leg Angles
Three variable leg angles of 25, 55, and 85° with independent leg spread accommodates uneven terrain and allows shooting at a minimum height of 4.5".
    Twist Leg Locks
Twist Locks that open with a quarter turn to extend to a maximum height of 80.5" or collapse the 4-sections of the leg in a quick and timely manner.
Tactile and Comfortable Rubber Leg Grips
Heavyweight rubber sleeves on two legs provide a secure, comfortable and balanced grip under any weather conditions.

Robus RC-8880 Reviews

RC-8880 Vantage Series 5 Carbon Fiber Tripod and Oben GH-30 Gimbal Head Kit is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than Manfrotto 536 I have used the Manfrotto 536 for a long time and finally decided to move on. Needed the height again, but wanted the twist locks, as the Manfrotto failed and I found flip locks to be annoying over time. These legs are extremely well built! They are lightweight and hold a ton. Comes with 3 different feet, a nice carrying bag (though I wish it was big enough for my attached head), and tools. This thing gets so so tall, but doesnt weigh much for the height and is super stable. Couldnt ask for better sticks! Not sure why these arent more popular.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wow I agree with everything said in the 2 earlier reviews. This is a remarkable tripod for the price. I purchased the RC-8880 Vantage Series 5 Carbon Fiber model because I wanted the 80” high for photographing the Wolf Blood moon eclipse and for the terribly uneven terrain we find so often in wildlife photography. Now I can get rid of all the other tripods I tried.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sturdy and Light Can’t really say anything else than I love this tripod. I have other sticks that cost more and tecreally no better at all. I beat on em, three em in and out of trunk a dozen times, shot long exposures in wind and rain and these were easy to carry, steady, and easy to walk around with. Stellar [I received this product in exchange for my honest review.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Robus Vantage Series 5 - A Love Story Let me just start out by saying this is going to be more of a love letter than a review.  This tripod without hyperbole is one of the best set of “sticks” I’ve ever owned (and I’ve owned a lot of them).  It is an elegantly designed system.  Beyond the fact that it’s super strong, super light carbon fiber (supports 77 lb at a weight of only 6.5 lb), the system is completely modular. Almost every aspect of it can be changed or adjusted to fit your needs. Don’t like the feet, change them ( it comes rubber, wide and spiked feet). Don’t like the head, change it. Tension too tight on the legs, change it.  This tripod becomes what you need when you need it. The legs swing out and lock in at a 25, 55, and 85 degree angle.  At 85 degrees you pretty much have a hi-hat.  Let that sink in…this tripod has HI-HAT capabilities. I know I shouldn’t be getting that excited over this, but the fact that I don’t have to bring another support system to get crazy low angles is mind-blowing to me. It’s super simple to use.  Out of the box you know exactly how it works, which is clutch.  I’ve been on too many sets where I have to stop what I’m doing and explain to the PA how to set up the tripod.  There is none of that here, it’s intuitive.  The Vantage does it’s job so you can do yours. The only issue I have with the Vantage Series 5 isn’t even with the tripod itself.  It comes with a carrying case which is a really nice bonus, but you can’t fit the tripod in the case if you have a head attached or the wide rubber feet.  This is certainly not a deal breaker at all, just something you should be aware of. When all is said and done I’m actually in awe of this support system.  You can tell because of the finer details that it was designed for shooters, by shooters.  A tripod system that can go toe to toe with Gitzo or Induro at nearly half the price is a real game changer.  I’m not joking when I say I love this tripod. *Standing ovation, high five* [I received this product in exchange for my honest review.]
