By capturing a single subject in each of the three primary colors—red, green, and blue—and stacking them in post production using specialized software, you can create any colors you want or highlight your subject's natural properties. The fourth, a luminance filter, is used to block ultraviolet (UV) and infrared (IR) light to allow only the visual spectrum between to pass through. Since many of today's imaging sensors are sensitive to IR and UV wavelengths, you can stack the luminance filter with any of the other three colored filters to eliminate ghosting caused by bands outside the visible spectrum "bleeding" into your image—especially with the blue and red.
Each filter has dichroic multi-coatings to boost light transmission to 93% across the entire surface with improved brightness and limited appearance of distortion, halos, and reflections. The filters are offered here mounted in a standard 1.25" eyepiece filter holder to fit most standard 1.25" eyepiece imagers, filter wheels, or for eyepiece imaging techniques such as afocal and projection imaging. These filters are specifically engineered for nighttime planetary and deep-sky imaging and are not intended for viewing or imaging the sun.
