Zhiyun-Tech GMB-CMF03/CMF04 Overview

The Zhiyun-Tech TransMount Focus & Zoom Servo Combo Kit includes the TransMount Max zoom/focus servo and slightly lighter TransMount Lite focus servo. Together these two motors allow you to control both focus and zoom with zero latency. Zhiyun-Tech TransMount Max Servo Zoom/Focus Controller for CRANE 3 LAB/2S, WEEBILL-S/LAB

The Zhiyun-Tech TransMount Max Servo Zoom/Focus Controller can be used interchangeably for zoom and focus control on the CRANE 3 LAB, CRANE 2S, WEEBILL-S, and WEEBILL LAB gimbals. It has a powerful-enough motor to control zoom, whereas the lighter-weight TransMount Lite is designed for focus control only.

The CRANE 3 LAB and CRANE 2S support up to two motors at the same time, and it's recommended to use the TransMount Max and TransMount Lite together if requiring both zoom and focus control on the CRANE. The WEEBILL-S and WEEBIL LAB, however, support only one motor, so the TransMount Max is recommended as the only solution because it can be used interchangeably for both functions.

Featuring a toolless design, the TransMount Max attaches on the gimbal using just the included thumbscrews. It can be controlled via the gimbal handwheel or the companion smartphone app. Secure it to the supplied support bracket and mounting rod using two thumbscrews, and attach this assembly to the bottom of the gimbal's baseplate with the third thumbscrew. Then, connect the servo to the gimbal with the provided USB cable, and connect the camera to the gimbal with one of the camera control cables the gimbal comes with. The USB cable connection provides zero-latency signal transmission.

Key Features

  • Can be used interchangeably for zoom and focus control
  • Recommended as the zoom solution for the CRANE 3 LAB and CRANE 2S, which support two motors at the same time, and as the sole solution for the WEEBIL-S and WEEBILL LAB, which support only one motor
  • Toolless design—assembles with the included support bracket and mounting rod and attaches to the bottom of the gimbal's baseplate using supplied thumbscrews
  • Connects to the gimbal via a USB cable and controls focus with zero latency

Zhiyun-Tech TransMount Lite Servo Focus Controller for Crane 3-Lab

The Zhiyun-Tech TransMount Lite Servo Focus Controller is designed specifically for focus control. For zoom control please see the TransMount Max, which has a stronger motor that's capable of handling zoom adjustments.

The TransMount Lite is intended for use with the Crane 3-Lab, although it's also compatible with the WEEBILL LAB. The Crane supports two motors at the same time; ideally, you would use the slightly lighter TransMount Lite for focus control and the optional TransMount Max for zoom control. The WEEBILL LAB, however, supports only one motor, so the better option for it would be the TransMount Max, because it can be used interchangeably between focus and zoom control.

Featuring a toolless design, the TransMount Lite attaches on the gimbal using just the included thumbscrews. It can be controlled via the gimbal handwheel or the companion smartphone app. Secure it to the supplied support bracket and mounting rod using two thumbscrews, and attach this assembly to the bottom of the gimbal's baseplate with the third thumbscrew. Then connect the servo to the gimbal with the provided USB cable, and connect the camera to the gimbal with one of the camera control cables the gimbal comes with. The USB cable connection provides zero-latency signal transmission.

Key Features

  • Designed for focus control only
  • Ideal for use on the Crane 3-Lab, which supports two motors at the same time, one for focus and one for zoom (the optional TransMount Max zoom/focus controller)
  • Toolless design — assembles with the included support bracket and mounting rod and attaches to the bottom of the gimbal's baseplate using included thumbscrews
  • Connects to the gimbal via a USB cable and controls focus with zero latency

Okay focus/zoom system

Very practical option, but has some flaws that are important to note. Focus has a lot of give in it - making it easy to over-correct. I've found that focus pulling is most accurate if I slightly twitch the wheel in the other direction once I'm on my mark so it doesn't keep going. My main complaint about this is the zoom motor. The motor seems to have an auto-calibration function for trying to sense where the hard stops are on your zoom lens. It is not very accurate though because it ends up stopping a good 5-10mm short in both directions. my 24-104 will only be usable 30-95mm. Not a huge deal on the telphoto end, but it's annoying not having access to the 24mm focal length when doing gimbal work. I thought that it may just be that the motor couldn't handle the lens, but when I first turn on the gimbal it will zoom all the way to the end - then when I go back and forth it won't go back to the end again. Zhiyun-Tech need to fix this with a firmware update

Necessary and Good but Lacking

It's a great and almost necessary addition to the crane 3. It's quick and accurate and allows for multiple types of shots and depth without move a hand and putting pressure on the crane. It's easy to set up and connects cleanly. The focus motor reacts very well to the wheel which gives me confidence. One point to remember when updating, you have to unplug one and then do the same to the other as they can't update at the same time. The reason for the 4 stars is the zoom motor. It seems like it cuts short the beginning or end of the zoom. What I mean by that is - instead of pulling out to 24mm (24mm-70mm) it gets tight or stuck on 30ishmm. It's like those last few mm tighten up and the motor can properly pull. Same for pushing in to 70mm, it stops around 65ish. It's not a huge deal as it still works fine for me but it's not acceptable. Maybe it's my lens? I use the crane and this set with a Canon 80d and 24-70mm f.4. Other than that, it's super easy to use and extremely beneficial with the crane 3. I love the setup and it's a true one man army for any type of shoot!

Great addition to the Zhiyun Crane 3 for handling focus & zoom. Not a bad price either when you look at other products that provide similar functionality. Well, gotta go play with the Crane 3.

Unfortunately, exact specifications from the manufacturer that would confirm this compatibility have not yet been made available, but based on the mechanical characteristics of the new Crane 3s, one can deduce that the two products should, indeed, be compatible.

We have not yet had the opportunity to test these with the new Crane 3S, but the connection protocol appears to be the same, therefore these should work.

Can the the zoom motor instead be connected to the aperture gear ring of a cine lens to smoothly adjust the aperture?
Asked by: Anonymous
As long as it is continuous setting- not click stops- I don't see why not. The motor drives to a gear cable tie that you wrap around the ring. It doesn't care which ring- other than zooming requires a lot more "umph" than focusing on most lenses.
