Cokin CP153 overview

  • 1Description

The Cokin P Series ND 0.6 Filter is a neutral density filter providing a 2-stop exposure reduction. This 0.6 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. By increasing your aperture or slowing your exposure time, you can control depth of field and convey movement more easily. Neutral density filters do not affect the coloration of the image and are ideal for pairing with other filters.

Cokin filters are constructed from optical resin and are notably light in weight, have a high resistance to shocks and drops, and provide optimum light transmission for high image quality. This filter measures 3.3 x 3.3" / 84 x 84mm and is compatible with the Cokin P filter holder.

    Cokin CP153 reviews

    84 x 84mm 0.6 Neutral Density 153 Filter is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 39.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not-so-neutral density filter I use this strictly for long exposure photography during the day. However, it adds a reddish color cast, which is sometimes pleasing and sometimes completely unwanted. It gets even worse if you pair this with a second neutral density filter of the same type to further reduce your exposure value. It's possible to remove the color cast in your processing software, but it's hard to get it to look exactly like the shot would look without the filter at all. This is called a neutral density filter, yet it's hardly neutral. But remember, this filter is cheap, so you get what you pay for.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very useful filter Great for outdoors, long-exposure or wide-aperture pictures. It'll let you open the aperture up on sunny days - or get an extra fraction of a second exposure on a waterfall. You can stack them with graduated ND filters on the Cokin holder for some truly wild effects.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Priceless This is the only way to get shallow depth of field when working in confined spaces with studio strobes - when you're shooting as fast as your sync will let you and your ISO is as low as it'll go. Also great for middle of the day shooting when you want to get motion in moving water shots and there's too much light. As far as I can tell any image deterioration is negligible and certainly better than not getting the shot or spending time fixing it in post.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for longer exposures I use it mostly for allowing longer exposures. With the Cokin system, combining with other ND filters allow for even longer exposures and getting some great silky nature shots. Normally too bright conditions turn in to perfect shots for longer exposures. The only downside is handling it and creating smudges on the glass all the time.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works as advertised I've only had the filter a few days, but testing today (was full sun, bright day) I was able to open up to f 2.8 and the filter cut down enough on the light so this was possible. My main use will be for outside wedding and portrait photography, for example, close photos of the bride or the couple with a wide aperture.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Just what I needed. For those of us shooting more & more video on our DSLR's, these P series ND filters from Cokin are exactly what we need to get that creamy shallow depth of field during bright daylight. Just remember - this is a square filter and you need the appropriate sized lens filter adapter (P series) to mount the filter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very useful Cokin P153 filter reduces the amount of light by 2 stops. Paired with Cokin P154 that reduces light by 3 stops, you get excellent 5 stops less light, so almost every long exposure shot is possible (just set the smallest available aperture for your lens). Best used for architectural and landscape photography.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Handy filter to have in the bag I took this filter on a photo workshop and used it often to achieve effects like water motion. I would buy it again, and plan to get some others with higher F-stop values. I will probably get a different case for it, though. I'm afraid it might get scratched in the plastic case that it comes in.
