While the first thing that catches your eye is the LED180 Halo Bi-Color Ringlight's unique form, Dracast demonstrates its versatility through performance and convenience features that stress flexibility in design. The LED180 offers color temperature that's variable from 3200 to 5600 and anywhere in between to blend seamlessly with other fixtures, or to meet the challenge of inconsistent ambient light conditions without the burden of applying filters. Light intensity is also adjustable from 0-100% with a simple twist of a knob.

While most light fixtures have a degree of directionality that allows selective lighting, the Halo is omnidirectional, bathing your subject in soft, flattering, near-shadowless light that is very kind to skin tones. Dracast employs 252 surface-mounted LEDs softened by a diffusion filter, and maintains a high CRI of 96, indicating an accurate rendering of color.

You can use the Halo as you would a traditional fixture - on a light stand placed to one side of your subject for wrap-around light and open shadows. It's when you place the camera lens into the center of the 19" ring that the Halo shows its true nature. You can use it combined with harder light sources to create a soft fill light, and since the Halo dims from 0-100%, you won't have to jockey the fixture around the set to obtain the required level of light. It's when it's used alone that its signature characteristics emerge - soft light on the face, head and shoulders, for instance, with sharp shadows cast exactly behind the body. The circular catchlights reflected in your subject's eyes also have a striking effect, especially up close.

The LED180 Halo is ready for worldwide use thanks to the inclusion of a multi-voltage AC adapter. A hot shoe adapter, phone adapter, diffusion filter, and a carry case are also included.

    LED180 Halo Bi-Color Ringlight is rated 3.6 out of 5 by 25.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from nice light quality...but the stand adapter? Great light quality, character and smoothness. Interesting arcs of LEDs at low power that I ended up liking. But...the stand adapter...really? loose handle nut that jams then falls out. baby pin doesn't go very far into the socket, and when tightened with the handle is loose and wobbly. No way I would set a multi thousand $ camera on it. the plastic hot shoe adapter is sad, too. Fortunately have a machine shop so made an aluminum receiver which is bolted into the plastic part. Be prepared for a rig that won't comfortably support your camera. Better to use a tripod behind it. Nice light, manufacturer needs to do some serious rework on the mount especially since a couple competitors have robust rail mounts.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Buy What You Need I get the notion people are expecting magic from this light rather than what any ring light actually provides. Its more than bright enough. I use it as enhancement for interviews and the set up is flawless. The beam of light is smooth and creates the ring in the eyes I want. Its not used in everyday scenarios nor did I expect that which is probably why I'm more happy with it. It does exactly what I want. With that said, only 4 star because it is still plastic, metal would have been nice but you can't get that at this price. I use it on a stand and tripod my camera separately its slight and expected compromise.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice smooth light It seemed like a good idea to add this luminaire to our stock of Dracast lighting equipment. While it isn't super bright, like a ring flash for still photography, it provides a pleading effect for video work, especially in a relatively dark environment. The down side of this, and perhaps all ring lights, is that if the subject(s) were eyeglasses, it really shows up in the lenses. The exception is of the subject is VERY close to the camera -- but then, the lighting falls off.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Hoping for more brightness I purchased this light because it didn't have the light output ratings listed. I contacted Dracast and they didn't have them either. That's never a positive sign, but I was still curious. At 5600K it's about 680 lux at 3 feet. At 4400K it's about 1360. All of these tests were with the diffuser on. Off you do gain some noticeable brightness, but then you have a lot of tiny lights showing up in the eyes. As for build, it's perfectly sturdy. All plastic, but nothing that should break with careful use. Light output is fine. I'm just disappointed with the amount of light output. I wouldn't recommend being much further away than 6 feet? unless you are just using it as a fill. 6 feet is 1/4 the brightness as the 3 feet, so you will notice drop off very quickly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid light for video work. I picked this up on sale last time around and only got one. I've used it on travel projects as it's a bright light that also is powered by the small sony NP batteries ($20-30 each - and they last longer than most interview shoots I do). They come with a wall adapter for wall power and mount on a light stand or c-stand just fine. I would NOT use the included camera mount (putting your camera in the middle of it) as it is just plastic. I have used a tripod though and shot through it for a cool ringlight look, but primarily I use it as a soft off-camera light. The ringlight has a similar look (on skin) to a beauty dish and doesn't always require diffusion as the included panel is pretty good at diffusion. It's brighter than my 500LED square panel by dracast and definitely has a softer look on skin (less specular highlights) and because you don't need a diffuser beyond the included one - it actually is pretty bright! One other benefit is that it's a pretty lightweight light - so you can easily extend it on a c-stand arm above and behind your interviewer for some nice hair light - and dial the color to whatever temps you want. I ordered 1 before, and now that they're on sale I'm ordering 2 more.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good light for the price This isnt the best and its not the worst light Ive seen or used. It is sufficient for some things and I am not disappointed with the light. It preforms well for a light at this price point. It isnt as bright as some of the others on the market but they are so much more expensive. I took a few test shots with the light so far and it was easy to set up and to move around since it is so lightweight. It has a pretty accurate color light rendering. When I shot some tests I did a white balance check and found that what the display says comes out extremely close when you manually set the white balance in camera to the specific kelvin. Overall it does what it should and is a good tool for the photography toolbox!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great light with lots of power I don't normally write reviews, but I did so just to address some of the other negative reviews. I ordered this light despite the reviews and I'm glad I did. People saying it's not bright is laughable. This light gets so bright, it's hard to look at it. I'm using it for vlogging and it works perfect. I'm not sure what others are using it for, but it can definitely light an entire room, which is not it's intended purpose. I have had no issues with the hot shoe, yet it is plastic, but it's really sturdy. I have also not had any issues with the stand. It works great. I give it 4 out of 5 instead of 5 out of 5 because when I mounted one of my cameras, it was a little tilted and there wasn't an easy way to fix that. I could adjust the legs, but that isn't that practical. I wish there was a knob where I could straighten it out and even a level so I know my shot is perfectly level. Overall, I would recommend this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great light for the money This is really great for a direct front fill. It’s big enough to shoot through with any camera and gives you a nice option for one-on-one interviews.
