the dealbreaker seems to be that the only way to record is on battery. Once you plug in the USB, it starts charging and you can't keep the USB connector plugged in and use the unit at the same time to do extended recording. There's no AC power connector and once the USB connects, it charges only and you can't turn the unit on and use it while the USB is plugged in. I looked at the manual online and it says you can do it with an adapter on PAGE189 of the manual, but, Sony doesn't make an accessory USB/AC adapter and there's no switch in the software to change the USB connector like it does have a software adjustment to change the input jack from mic impedance to auxilary line input like for taping off a radio, etc. Would really appreciate it if anyone can explain this. I called Sony and Sony support is useless. The customer service number told me to call Sony professional support and nobody from Sony answers the question. Makes me really question why I'd want to deal with Sony, also. Olympus at least responds to consumer questions. Although, everything else about the unit is great. I'm just really turned off by this problem and by Sony for the way they respond. Please tell me I missed something and you can plug in the USB connector and turn on the unit and use it while the USB is plugged in. Thanks???

I just tested my PCM-A10 and it records fine when you have the USB plugged into a 5 volt USB charger. When you plug the USB into a computer USB port however, it automatically switches to connect mode for transferring files and you can't record or play back in that mode. But when the battery eventually dies (or now when it is out of charge) you can definitely record or play back on the PCM-A10 using a 5 volt USB charger, be it an AC charger or a battery pack.

Will the mic input work with stereo mic?

Will the mic input work with stereo mic?
Asked by: Jeffrey
The Sony PCM-A10 is compatible with stereo microphones that use a TRS connection. If the mic in question uses any other type of connection, such as TRRS for example, it will not be compatible.

Is it allowed live monitoring thru bluetooth headphone connection?
Asked by: SANGHOON
No, live monitoring can not be done via Bluetooth, only playback. The recording audio is output to the headphone jack, so you would need a wired connection to monitor.

Does Bluetooth also work while recording? I mean if I'm recording music, and want to listen to Bluetooth headphones while recording, will it work? Or the intention only after the sound file is closed?
Asked by: yehuda
No, the Bluetooth feature cannot be used while recording. It is only available for use during playback to connect wireless headphones or speakers. When recording, it is always best to use wired headphones since there can be some latency with Bluetooth.
