The 6TB Purple 5400 rpm SATA III 3.5" Internal Surveillance HDD Retail Kit from Western Digital is a 3.5" SATA drive with a data transfer rate of 6 Gb/s that is designed to withstand the stresses placed on it in a 24/7 surveillance system. With support for up to 64 high-definition surveillance cameras, this 6TB hard drive can hold a large amount of data and gives you the ability to easily upgrade and expand your security system.

A 64MB cache helps to ensure uninterrupted data transfers and the drive's 300,000 load/unload cycles, combined with its 1 million hours MTBF helps ensure the drive will have a strong operational life. This drive is compatible with both Windows and Macintosh operating systems and includes mounting screws.

Surveillance-Class Drive

WD Purple surveillance-class storage has been tested to be compatible in a wide-range of security systems. These drives are designed to replace standard desktop drives that were not designed for the 24/7 always-on, high-definition surveillance environment. Desktop drives are built to run for only short intervals and are not engineered to withstand high-temperature fluctuations and equipment vibrations found in a typical surveillance application.

Surveillance Storage

The WD Purple Surveillance Hard Drive is designed for high temperature, always-on, surveillance security systems to ensure reliability and quality video play back when you need it most.

Improve Performance with AllFrame

This WD Purple Surveillance-class hard drive is equipped with AllFrame technology which works with ATA streaming to reduce frame loss, improve playback and increase the number of drive bays supported. AllFrame reduces video interruptions that commonly occur when desktop hard drives are incorrectly used as storage in security systems. Missed frames and lost footage can be a problem when an event occurs and surveillance footage needs to be retrieved. WD Purple with AllFrame provides the confidence you should expect when it's time to play back and review critical surveillance footage.

Optimized Performance for Up to 64 Cameras

With support for up to 64 high-definition surveillance cameras, this WD Purple hard drive gives you the flexibility to upgrade and expand your security system in the future.

IntelliPower Rotational Speed

In terms of speed, this drive operates using WD's IntelliPower rotational speed. This means that the rpm speed of the drive depends on the operations being performed. If the drive is performing mostly sequential reads and writes, its speed will be increased as compared to if it were performing mostly random mode operations. This 6TB drive also features a 64MB cache helps ensure uninterrupted data transfers.

Low Power Consumption

With integrated IntelliSeek technology, this WD Purple drive calculates the optimum seek speed which lowers power consumption, noise and vibration that can damage and cause drives to wear out more quickly.

1 million hours MTBF

1 million hours mean time between drive failures

Windows and Mac Compatible

Compatible with Windows 8, 7, Vista, and XP

This hard drive makes a lot more noise then the 2tb hard drives that this 4tb drive replaced. The old drive is 4 years old and is still working .when it is. Quiet you can here it 15 feet away.the old drive is the same brand. Not sure if this is normal or a bad drive.

WD 82PURZ drives are 7200 rpm not 5400 rpm as being advertised above.... WD 81PURZ are 5400 rpm big different in longevity in life of drives. WD stopped making the 8T 5400'S 256 MB Cache. Saw these drives... jumped on the band wagon and bought the bundle$$$. Own 2 NVR's both carry 2 8T 5400 256 mb. working on third NVR.I should have double checked model #'s

Installed in an older Swann security system.

I purchased this to replace a somewhat small 500 GB drive in a Swann DVR 1580 unit. I only turn on the unit when I'm not here so I haven't used it for a ton of hours. It is in a Swann unit that sits in a non-climate controlled shop. The shop is not insulated. This unit is used in the heat/humidity of the summer in rural WI to the cold/dry of the winter. From 100 degree F in the shop to -20 degree F. So far, I have not had an issue. Works for my purpose. Only reason I gave it 4 stars vs 5 stars is I can't speak to the longevity of this drive in my circumstances.

B&H had best price anywhere, quick ship and great to deal with. Too soon to really review the drive, but setup was a breeze and operation has been perfect so far.

question

I have a ZOSI dvr for 8 channel. Can this work to record video from them
Asked by: Fedner E.
Hi I agree with both other comments. Yes a 4TB is better than the 1 TB. It also depends on how much recording time you want. 2TB with 24 hour recording you should get 2 weeks or more. If that what you require The cameras and recorder you have is analog so it wont use a lot of space. Like others had said your DVR does have a max size allowed for the DVR so you should check its max size and yes its pretty much plug and play. Dont forget to format the HDD. The GUI in HDD will have that option.
