Leupold Tactical overview

  • 1Description

Ideal for hunters, boaters, and other outdoor enthusiasts, this version of the Leupold 10x42 BX-T HD Tactical Binocular comes outfitted with their Mil-L ranging reticle to help estimate the range to, and size of, objects and targets in the field of view. A simple L-shaped reticle, it is capable of rotating by twisting the left eyepiece to enable its use even if the subject isn't on the same plane as the user.

Sporting a powerful magnification, extra-low dispersion glass, and their proprietary Twilight Max HD Light Management System, the BX-T delivers bright and sharp high-contrast images with true-to-life color and crisp clarity when observing game or targets from medium to long range. Image quality is further enhanced through the use of phase-correcting coatings on the prisms, and the lenses are made of high-transmittance calcium-fluoride glass, which, by their nature, limit reflection and increase color fidelity and contrast. The Twilight Max HD system complements the glass with index-matched lens coatings that were specifically engineered for the calcium-fluoride lenses to raise the already-high transmittance across the entire visible spectrum—with special emphasis on the blue and violet wavelengths that are most prevalent in low light, such as at dawn and dusk. The 42mm objectives gather generous amounts of light to further boost performance in less-than-ideal conditions without the bulk and weight of larger objectives, while a wide viewing angle helps to reduce the appearance of distracting hand shake that is often associated with holding powerful optics like this one. All of these optical features work together to present the user with a comfortable and immersive observational experience engineered for the needs of tactical professionals.

Designed to withstand the rigors of daily outdoor use in all weather and conditions, the optical tubes are nitrogen filled and O-ring sealed to make them waterproof and resistant to internal fogging when moving through extreme temperature variations. The chassis is made from an aluminum alloy to make it lightweight and corrosion resistant without sacrificing strength and stability, and the aluminum eyecups can be removed and replaced in the field to limit downtime. Helping to cut the weight, while providing users with more area to grip, Leupold employs an open-bridge configuration with a dual hinge, and its oversized, knurled center focusing wheel allows for sharp focusing even when wearing gloves. For long-duration glassing sessions, or to reduce fatigue and visible hand shake, the HD Tactical can be mounted on a tripod or other support system using an optional adapter. To make it easier to carry, the included case is made to be MOLLE compatible for easy attachment to harnesses, packs, vests, and other gear.

Optical Performance
  • 10x magnification allows for detailed observations of distant subjects
  • 42mm objective lenses improve light-gathering ability versus smaller objectives while helping to maintain a compact form factor
  • BAK4 roof prisms deliver a round exit pupil and a crisp and clear image with limited edge distortion
  • High-definition (HD) extra-low dispersion calcium-fluoride glass lens elements reduce chromatic and spherical aberrations for increased contrast, improved color rendition, and sharpness without distortion across the entire field of view
  • Phase-corrected prism coatings reduce internal interference to improve contrast, clarity, and resolution
  • Twilight Max HD Light Management System improves color, clarity, and contrast using index-matched multi-coatings that complement the optical glass to ensure maximum light transmission across the entire visual spectrum—especially the upper blue/violet range to enhance low-light vision
  • Wide 62° apparent angle of view helps to reduce the appearance of distracting hand shake that is common when holding high-power optics, while presenting an immersive observational experience
  • Generous 326' field of view at 1000 yards
Reticle Details
  • Mil-L design, non-illuminated
  • Designed to more easily estimate the distance to, and size of, a target or object
  • Medium hairs on lower vertical and left horizontal axes with hashmarks at 1/2 Mil intervals
  • Located on the left eyepiece
  • Reticle position can be rotated if the object is not on the same plane as the user
Use and Handling
  • Open-bridge/dual-hinge configuration reduces weight without sacrificing strength or stability
  • Large slip-resistant center focusing wheel is easy to manipulate in cold or wet conditions or when wearing gloves
  • Locking right-eye dioptric adjustment on focus wheel allows for precise focusing for sharper and clearer views
  • Twist-up click-stop rubber eyecups for comfortable use with or without eyewear; textured for easier handling with gloves
  • Tripod mountable with optional adapter for hands-free use to eliminate vibrations and arm fatigue
  • Comfortable 16mm eye relief reduces eyestrain for easier viewing
  • 4.2mm exit pupil will cover pupils as they open in low light to keep the entire scene in view at all times
Construction Details
  • Bridge design provides more surface area for hands to improve grip security
  • Lightweight and durable aluminum-alloy housing
  • Field-replaceable aluminum eyecups make repairs in the field quick and easy with no downtime; replacement eyecups available separately
  • Nitrogen filled and O-ring sealed to be waterproof and resistant to internal fogging when moving through extreme changes in temperature and environmental conditions
  • Rubberized armor exterior protects against bumps and impacts
  • Tactical black color won't draw attention when using it around town or in the field
  • Ergonomically placed textured palm pads provide a non-slip, stable, and comfortable grip
  • MOLLE-compatible case enables it to be easily attached to packs, harnesses, and other gear
