Fotopro E-6H Reviews

Fotopro E-6H Eagle Series Gimbal Head

The Fotopro E-6H Eagle Series Gimbal Head is an excellent head to use. I was looking for smaller gimbal head for my tripod setup which is more stable than a ball head. It is easier to maneuver when taking wildlife photos and other photos in multiple genres of photography. I highly recommend this gimbal head

When you are fighting the total airline weight issues this product is lighter than many of the competitors yet is fully featured, extremely well made and machined - highly recommend

It is the most flexible gimbal head. Solid feel, and smooth.

works fine for my purposes....but

The upper L bracket is useless for me when I wish to mount my camera to the gimbal head (for astrophotography). There isn't enough space between the detachable L bracket brace and arca-swiss mount for the camera body (Olympus EM1.3). I just remove the L bracket altogether and mount the camera sideways on the main gimbal body.... with a cheese plate and a couple of shims this arrangement works fine for panarama pics too. For my big lens (Oly 150-400mm) or any other lens with the mounting ring, I just mount the lens to the main bracket directly and use the lens ring to achieve verticle/horizontal twisting action.... I could use the L bracket here no problem....but why bother, the rig is lighter without it. Hence, I have simply discarded the L bracket (into a storage bin) and do field work with the main gimbal head body. So, I like the gimbal, but I found the L bracket to be useless.

nice gimbal, my lens was not good fit

had to wait three months before this was in stock. when it arrived, the detail and precise workmanship were impressive. however, my main purpose in ordering was to find alternative to my large wimberly gimbal. unfortunately, my 600mm f/4 nikkor with d500 body, did not fit well when mounted with the cradle. the lens was rubbing against the gimbal frame. the detailed instructions with the E-6H mentions this, but I did not learn for sure until I tested with my actual lens snd body. I requested a return from B&H and they promptly sent me a RMA.

This has to be one of the best purchases of gear I have made for my photography adventures. Whether I use if for birds in flight or landscape, it is just a simple change. It is extremely well built and the extra locking features make accidents a thing of the past. If you need a gimbal this is the one.

Fotopro E-6H Gimbal Head - Almost What I'd Hoped For

By Noel B

I've been using the Fotopro E-6H Eagle Series Gimbal Head for about 5 months. I like it. It's very well made and a pleasure to use, however, it comes up 'short' in one dimension. The overall height of 7.5 is about 3/4 'short'. I'm unable to mount my Canon RF 100-500mm lens at or below its center of gravity. Because the lens sits above the center of gravity, it does not balance and does not return to level when released. Balanced operation is one of the primary reasons for using a gimbal head. My Canon lens is a relatively compact and lightweight longer telephoto that I would expect to be suitable on this gimbal (one of key features is Balances Camera & Large Telephoto Lenses"). The mounting problem can be worked around by removing the included 'L' foot plate and mounting the lens directly from the side, however, this moves the lens center well beyond the vertical rotation center. Fotopro makes a larger E-9H gimbal head that is 8.1 tall, however, this is not enough additional height to correct the 'short' coming of the E-6H. Also, the E-9H weighs 2x what the E-6H does. Buyer's should note that another of the key features is Leveling Head with Built-In Bubble Level. Yes, there is a bubble level which is helpful when leveling, however, the product does not include a leveling base or means for actually leveling the head. And finally, buyer's may also want to note one more key feature carbon fiber construction". Hmm, sure seems like "aluminum construction". This is not a criticism, but it is a little misleading. Regardless of the material, the overall weight is in fact 2 lbs as stated. The Fotopro E-6H is overall a sturdy, compact and lightweight gimbal head that has replaced the Arca-Swiss ball head on my tripod.

Panning way too stiff!

By Jim

The panning although "fluid" feeling is way too stiff to be useful. I was trying to photograph small birds flitting around and trying to follow them accurately was almost impossible. If a bird moved 6 inches and I needed to recompose the shot, it took so much force to pan that it caused me to overshoot the birds and I'd have to try and readjust the other direction. Totally frustrating! The friction is just way too high. I like the build and size of the product but, it is useless if the panning doesn't work the way it should. Returning the product.
