Sunwayfoto PCL-R Overview

The PCL-R Custom L-Bracket for Canon EOS R from Sunwayfoto is a single-piece design that is CNC machined from T6061 aluminum with a Type-III hard-anodized finish for durability. The Arca-type L-bracket can mount in both a vertical or horizontal orientation, and dual safety stops are located on the bottom of each axis as a precaution against the L-bracket from sliding out if the quick release clamp is partially opened by accident.

The camera mounts to the bracket via a 1/4"-20 male threaded screw, and the anti-twist lip on the plate prevents and minimizes any movement between the camera and the bracket. The Eos R has an alignment socket at the base, which the shifting set screw right in to further stabilize the bracket to the camera. The camera's ports are completely accessible including the battery chamber, and the tilting and rotating LCD screen is not blocked.

Good quality fits perfectly and decent price. However LCD screen does not open all the way because bracket in the way. Not a real problem unless you need it flat. I think all L brackets would have this problem on a fully articulating screen.

On the item I received the shifting set screw has a hex head, which mean one has to have the hex wrench with one in order to loosen or tighten the screw.  This is makes this bracket very user unfriendly.  Notice that the pictures on the B&H webpage show this screw with a slotted head; Im assuming that the design was changed during production.  I have a number of Sunwayfoto plates and clamps; this is the first one Ive had an issue with.  It is well made.  If you dont need to slide out the bracket in order to further extend the LCD screen (it still wont extend out fully) or to access the side panel , this bracket could work for you, and, at about half the price of the name brand brackets available, would be a good value.  I, however, will be returning mine.   A couple final notes.  It appears to me that to fully open, flip, and view the LCD screen on the R you need an L bracket with a removable vertical piece; this is a consequence of the narrower width of the R and the necessary width of an Area Swiss bracket.  The ProMedia Gear bracket does have a removable vertical section, which is front set far enough to allow the screen to be fully rotated, but when installed the vertical section blocks access to the switches on the 24-105 RF lens (no images on B&H webpage), so I dont recommend it (Full review is forthcoming.).  This leaves, at this time, the Kirk, which appears to me to be the most functional of those currently available.  Ive ordered one.  Hope its as advertised.

You get what you pay for, and this is one of those examples. Its build quality is very rough, sharp edges, missing vertical centering mark and very thin/flimsy. Get the RRS one and be done with it. Remember your putting about 5 grand of your trust and gear on this. Get the right tool for the job.

Asked by: Marcy
The Sunwayfoto PCL-R Custom L-Bracket for Canon EOS R does not block the rotation of the LCD screen. Unfortunately, Sunwayfoto was not able to confirm if the L-bracket would affect tilting the LCD screen, or to what degree the screen may be tilted when using the bracket.

Will this bracket fit with other R cameras, like the R5?
Asked by: Samuel
Haven't any idea. But this bracket installed on the 'R' restricts the articulating movement of the viewing screen. For this reason I returned the bracket.
