Balancing the optical attributes, this lens is also distinguished by its five stop-effective image stabilization system that minimizes the appearance of camera shake for sharper handheld imagery. Additionally, the lens also features a dust-, freeze-, and weather-resistant construction to suit working in trying environmental conditions.

Medium telephoto zoom lens offers a 79-158mm equivalent focal length to realize a narrow field of view to suit wildlife and portraiture applications.
Constant f/5.6 maximum aperture offers consistent performance throughout the zoom range.
Two Super ED elements greatly reduce chromatic aberrations and color fringing throughout the zoom range for greater clarity and color accuracy.
One aspherical element controls field curvature, distortion, and spherical aberrations in order to maintain a high degree of sharpness and accurate rendering.
A linear AF motor is used for quick, quiet focusing performance to suit both photo and video applications. Additionally, an updated mechanism also fixes the linear motor position when turning the camera off so the focus position remains the same.
A focus limiter switch lets you adjust the focusing range from 2' to infinity or from 16.4' to infinity for faster focusing performance when working with distant subjects.
Optical Image Stabilization system compensates for up to five stops of camera shake to help realize sharper imagery when shooting handheld.
Rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality.
Physical aperture ring allows for intuitive adjustment over exposure settings, and incorporates a C (Command) position to permit camera-based aperture setting.
Dust- and weather-sealed magnesium-alloy construction enables working in harsh climates and temperatures as low as 14°F.
Compatible with optional GF 1.4X TC WR Teleconverter, which extends the focal length to 140-280mm for even greater reach.

Great lens for what I do.

A great alternative to the 70-200 f4 on full-frame

This is my newest lens for the GFX system, and I've only had it out a few times now, but I have been very impressed. The size and weight are great for a telephoto zoom on a medium format system. I actually really like the range, and if I can't get quite close enough, well that's where the 102 megapixels of the GFX 100s come in to play! I'm sure it would be excellent on the 50 models as well. In my limited experience with the lens I have found the photos I've taken to be very sharp with excellent colors and contrast. The build quality is also excellent and the OIS works very well. If I dropped this lens off a cliff, I would not hesitate to buy another.

Quite nice for travel with a MF body

While it's heavy, a bit large, and an f5.6, it's necessary to remember that this is a MF lens. If you want f4 it's going to be even heavier and larger, and at f2.8 nobody would want one because it would be really heavy and really huge, not to mention ruinously expensive. Taking those facts into consideration, and the fact that is a very sharp lens, this is certainly a worthwhile purchase if the focal length fits your circumstances. If you are interested in traveling with a MF body and can tolerate the size/weight this may be a very useful addition. Also, as the photos don't generally show the lens with the hood attached, be aware that the hood is HUGE.

Must have in a professional kit!

I was worried this lens wouldn't not fit my needs for a portrait lens in my kit. I looked very serious at the 110mm prime that fuji offers in the GFX line, but I am very glad I choose this instead. It's very versatile and sharp, and having the extra reach has been very handy! It only goes to f/5.6 which on paper worried me, but in practices working in my lighting studio has yet to be an issue. The focusing is very fast, lens weight its bad fo a longer zoom lens, and the lens hood which comes with the camera is wonderfully made and long enough that even when shooting outdoors nearly into the sun, I haven't had to worry about lens flare! Very happy with this lens, would recommend it for any commercial photo folks out there.

Exceptional quality.

Very nice lens. Better focal length than I expected. High quality. The slow 5.6 aperture has not been a problem.

Good Quality

I bought this lens to complement my 32-64 mm lens for landscape photography and I find it works very well. Sharp, quick to focus and with the image stabilization, I can shoot hand held in many situations. I also use it with the GF 1.4X TC to get a bit more reach and with the MCEX-45G for macro work. While the magnification is more modest than with a shorter focal length, the relatively long lens to subject distance makes it a good choice for me. I find it to be sharp alone or with the above additions and I do not see any aberrations to speak of. Many have complained about the limited zoom range. However, as a primarily landscape photographer, I find that having the ability to make modest adjustments to the framing once the composition is selected without moving the tripod to be a real boon. I am pleased with this addition to my kit and expect you will be too.

Probably the least sharp of the GF line

I think if you are used to pixel peeping with other GF lenses or go for heavy crops, you will probably be disappointed if your point of reference happens to be other GF lenses. It's not a bad lens, but reminds me of the big zoom Sigma lenses from a sharpness standpoint. Definitely usable and portable, but don't have a heart-attack when its not up to snuff when compared to other GF lenses or high quality full-frame zooms like your top end 70-200 lenses.

Amazing quality, decent portrait lens, lightweight, large

I was hoping this would be a more versatile lens than the prime alternatives in the same zoom range and this has turned out to be the case. Even full body or headshot portraits have a good degree of subject separation and bokeh at the maximum aperture of f5.6. Possibly my favorite lens of the GF lineup alongside the 23mm.

F5.6 really? I thought it was a typo, at this price range it should've been at least an F4.0 or F2.8 for 2X zoom. Reminds me of a Canon FD 100-200 5.6 that was cheap but was dubbed "slow but sharp". I know this is more of a comment than a question. thanks!
