Bought as a second camera to supplement my Z9

I bought this during the crazy year end sale at basically half price. The sensor is the same as the Z7ii and very similar to D850. Image quality is fantastic and the fact that it is somewhat slower than the 2 gen cameras doesn't matter as I have Z9 when I want ultimate performance and the Z7 when I want to go small and inconspicuous. The Z7 makes for a fantastic camera for street shooting.

There's so much to say about this camera I don't even know where to begin except it's so amazing I will never shoot DSLR again!!! Every shot is in perfect focus and it's taken the work out of everything for me.

Coming from a D850 this is an outstanding camera. Fast focus; i can hand hold the 100-400 to 1/8 sec.

was debating between this and the Z7ii... I decided to save a little money and put it towards more glass and I'm not disappointed about it at all. So far the camera has exceeded every expectation I have.

That $1000 discount is difficult to resist. It might seem like clearing the storage and making way for the newer bodies, but the 1st gen Z6 & Z7 are still very capable of producing amazing pictures in 2023, especially when driven by the 3.50 firmware. The eye-detection works fast and does the job most of the time. The images are natural in color and rich in details. There is simply no greater deal than this.

Amazing camera even in 2023

This is my first full-frame camera, and my first mirrorless camera. Before this I was shooting with Nikon DSLRs for about 4 years. This camera was absolutely worth the upgrade. It took me a while to get used to how light the camera is, and how easy it is to shoot with. Also bought the FTZ adaptor so that I could continue to use my existing lenses while slowly upgrading my currently lenses. I use it mainly for landscape, nature, street, and travel photography. The only complaint I have is that I cannot use my existing memory cards on this camera. This camera requires CFExpress memory cards, not SD cards. And there are no converters on the market yet. Other than that, the camera itself is amazing!

Nikon Z7 as a companion to my Z6

Purchased this Z7 for the 45mp sensor to go long with my Z6 and everything works great. I use this with my 24-120 f/4 S and with the extra large sensor (compared to the Z6) can change to DX mode and still have a 20mp camera. Or, I can just crop the pictures and still get great detail.

Expeed 6 was the latest processor available at the time. It allows you to shoot and buffer larger files, such as produced by a 45 million pixel sensor . You are able also to shoot at a faster burst rate. Rovingphotographer1982

How is the Z7 with low light? I need another good camera to photograph bar bands/concerts and high school sports at night with no flash and poor lighting, currently shooting with a D850 and it is pretty good.
Asked by: Jeffrey
I would stay away from Nikon Z6 or Z7 for low light performance. Sony A7 III is affordable and cheaper that Nikon Z7 II (a minor improvement over Z7). If cropping is a must, then Sony A7 IV or A7R IIIA. If not on budget, Canon R3 has better ergonomics and very good color palette. Or wait till Canon will release R5 Mark II with the BSI sensor.

Video recording is possible using either the full-frame or a DX crop area. It will crop, if you want it to. It is not required.
