AMPLIFI AFI-G Reviews

Fantastic, Quick, and has QoS!

Fantastic product. Very easy setup and update for the units using an app on my iPhone. Mesh units quickly recognized the main router and started working. Took some spotty network coverage to a solid network! My favorite thing about this version of AmpliFi is being able to set 3 levels of QoS. This allows to give priority to the important devices on my network, like my wife's laptop who works from home, and deprioritize the kids tablets. Works like a charm!

Fast and easy setup, App is OK

The setup on this is super easy. I was a little worried the mesh points would be troublesome to setup, but all I had to do was plug the router in, then plug the mesh points into the wall. Did a quick update on the touch screen and everything was perfect right off the bat. I have one mesh point setup with 5g that's close to the router and another mesh point setup with 2g because it's a little further away. You don't really need to do much. The app is alright for what it is, it's a little pain in a butt since it points you to connect to a wifi network through the app, but it doesn't connect right. You have to actually open your wifi settings manually to connect. Not a big deal. The app also assumes you know a lot about this stuff but if you're looking at this router I guess you already do.

Wow great for me!

This has been a giant leap forward for my home wifi! Now I did live in the stone age with an quite old asus router n150. It did have good range but I was only getting 20-30mbs wired or wifi and with the mesh amplifi system I get even better range and 300-450mbs wifi on 400mb service. This was super easy setup and while I am not a gamer we had such bad lag at times it would actually cause issues with streaming since we have 12+ devices going. I tried Qos features but did not seem to make a difference on the old equipment however the amplifi system does it auto for you which was a selling point for me. overall 5 stars, not wifi 6 but seriously do you need that for another 3-4 years?

Solid Mesh Wi-Fi System for general home use

Simply put, this is pretty solid system overall. If you need a system to handle a lot of wifi devices in a home with coverage issues, this setup is worth your time to look into. Setup was very refined and streamlined. I plugged power and the WAN (ISP) connection, loaded up the AmpliFi app, and ran through the setup process to get the basics down. Afterwards, I plugged in the mesh access points into wall on different sides of the house. It takes a minute for them to boot up and contact the main system. Afterwards, you can fire up the AmpliFi app on the phone and check diagnostic information of system to check signal strengths and more. The performance is solid. I was upgrading a setup that was woefully under-powered and outdated. So, it was a night and day difference. While it won't have the performance and fine configuration of more advanced setups, I don't have run cables to access points, configure a central control, and do a lot of labor to mount everything in place. If you want something like that... Ubiquiti Networks has another product line that's more geared for those needs. There are a few issues. While the firmware is very advanced and refined, it's a bit too streamlined and several advanced features the system could easily support aren't to be found. These may come in a firmware update later, but don't count on them at the moment. One thing that stuck out was there not being built-in support for Dynamic DNS. A bit strange, but not a complete deal breaker for my case. I only needed Dynamic DNS to remotely access the system for diagnostics, which thankfully the AmpliFi router has other options to allow that through the app in a secure manner. Also, this a pricey system in comparison to what is out in the market. But in my case, it was pay a little extra for a all-in-on system that was designed to work together, or save money by trying to cobble a bunch of odds and ends to hope I can get them working. For this particular situation, I believe this system was the best choice. Far easier to maintain, far less setup, and no need to drill holes in walls and floors. It will really depend on what you value. If you just want a setup that covers your home with minimal fight and you don't require any thing networking-wise fancy? The AmpliFi Gamer's Edition should do it and will satisfy.

I live in a building across a large driveway parking lot from my garage/shop and this is the first mesh router that has given me consistently high speeds in both buildings. it was a breeze to setup and has been happily humming away ever since I turned it on. I love that I can see and control what is connected to the network and keep track of my data rates and how much I send and receive each month.
