The Shinobi 5" 4K HDMI Monitor is an on-camera monitor with DCI 4K, UHD 4K, and HD video input. It features a 10-bit FRC IPS screen with a brightness of 1000 cd/m², which makes it suitable for use in both exterior and interior conditions. The AtomHDR display technology allows you to accurately monitor your log gamma footage without having to view flat, washed-out looking images or use a LUT to compress the dynamic range and color space. The monitor supports popular log formats from Sony, Canon, Panasonic, ARRI, RED, and JVC cameras.

Built to withstand the rigors of production, the Shinobi features a lightweight plastic chassis and powers from a single L-series battery. Additional features include a variety of onscreen exposure analysis, framing, and focus assist tools, as well as anamorphic de-squeeze. A 12V power supply with L-series battery eliminator is included with the unit.

AtomHDR
With AtomHDR you can monitor up to ten stops of dynamic range of your camera's LOG image. Most conventional monitors can only display six or seven stops, which is fine for standard footage; but a Log image will look overly flat. It is also superior to monitoring with a loaded LUT, which can clip the highlights and mask shadows.

5" Daylight Viewable Screen
The Shinobi features a 5" IPS LCD screen that is illuminated by a bright 1000 cd/m² LED backlight, making it possible to view in daylight without requiring a hood. Plus, the screen is also color calibrated from the factory to ensure accurate image representation.
HDR Signal Management
Log and HDR signals can be difficult to monitor with conventional equipment. Though, with the Shinobi's built-in HDR signal management functions, the log signal can be converted to the PQ standard for compatibility with existing consumer and professional HDR equipment.

Atomos Shinobi Reviews

Solid Monitor

I've been using this for the past six months, and it's pretty great, nothing major to complain about. Does the job at a reasonable price.

low resolution

I agree with some reviews that it is not useful for a focus puller, the resolution or the ppi are not enough, you can see the pixels and I did not like it at all

Very helpful for Video and proper exposure

Great tool to assure you are properly exposing for your video. I am using it a Sony A1 and Nikon Z6 II. Beats the heck out of the tiny screens and it has a bunch of very useful exposure tools. Definitely get the kit!

So far so good

Does its job so far. Colors are fine, size and weight are perfect. I have had the power button act a bit funky, and there was a short stretch where I couldn't get it to power on for my last shoot of the day. If this happens again I will be returning it, but so far hasn't been an issue again.

Must have for S-Log 3

I bought the monitor mostly for the ability to load LUT's. It has been a game changer for shooting with S-Log 3, and being able to load my favorite LUT's helps me know EXACTLY how my image will look in post before I even get there. I've also used this monitor in a pinch for livestreams as a preview monitor with the ATEM Mini. It's incredibly sharp and bright. And for the price you can't beat it. I often shoot in full sunlight with now shade cover and have no problem seeing the monitor.

Solid construction, easy to use, lots of features - love it

I've used the Small HD Focus 5 for a couple years. The screen got a small crack and it wigged out. I bought this and feel like I should've got it originally. The construction is more durable and rugged, the performance has no drop off (maybe even better?), and the software is more intuitive. I'm a fan.

Can't Say Enough Good Things

This monitor is PERFECT for you wedding videographers out there who are looking to step up your game. Not only is it super light weight, but the ability to import my own LUTs to see exactly what I will see when I'm editing has been AMAZING. The features are extensive. Cannot recommend it more.

Using this with my canon 6D, screen isn’t full and the image it shows isn’t even clear. Any ideas?
Asked by: Brenden
The Canon 6D does not have a Clean HDMI output that sends out a full HD signal. This is simply a limitation of the camera.

Will this monitor work with Sony a6400 4K from camera?
Asked by: Kyle
Yes! I use this Shinobi with my Sony a6500 shooting 4K. Needs an HDMI D (Micro) to HDMI cable to connect. I use this monitor on my Ronin-S gimbal with a6500. The a6400 has same output and will work. This is a wonderful monitor that I highly recommend. K
