Viltrox EF-FX2 Overview

This 0.71x Lens Mount Adapter from Viltrox allows a full-frame Canon EF-mount lens to be mounted onto a FUJIFILM X-mount camera. While doing so, the adapter's optics help to maximize the connected lens's apparent angle of view while providing a one-stop increase for the camera over the lens's aperture range.

If a lens intended for 35mm film or similarly-sized full-frame camera sensors is connected to a FUJIFILM X-mount camera, it would project an image larger than the camera's APS-C sized sensor was built to accept. Able to capture only the center portion of the projected image, the effective angle of view of the lens would be narrowed, creating an in-camera "crop factor." This adapter condenses the light from a lens designed for 35mm film or "full frame" camera sensors and projects it onto a FUJIFILM X-mount camera's APS-C sensor. This allows the APS-C sensor to utilize more of the light gathered by a connected lens, which effectively reduces the crop factor while making available to the sensor an additional one stop of light for each of the lens's f/stop settings.

If a compatible lens includes autofocus, as well as camera-controlled aperture functions, this adapter is intended to allow those features to be used. Also, if an attached lens is capable of generating Exif metadata when used with a directly compatible camera, this adapter is designed to allow that information to be saved along with image files generated with a combination of the lens, a compatible FUJIFILM X-mount camera, and the adapter.

This adapter is constructed with four lens elements in four groups that are designed to provide optical clarity as well as color fidelity, and the underside of its detachable tripod foot is tapped with a 1/4"-20 accessory thread, enabling direct attachment to tripods or quick release plates that feature 1/4"-20 mounts. For ease of upgrading its firmware, this adapter also includes a micro-USB port.

  • Due to its physical design, this adapter is not suitable for use on the FUJIFILM X-Pro3 camera and may scratch the camera body if attached
  • Maximizes apparent angle of view of combined camera and lens
  • Provides a one-stop increase for the camera over the lens's aperture range
  • Four lens elements in four groups for optical clarity as well as color fidelity
  • Supports electronic communication between camera and lens to enable autofocus, on-camera aperture control, and Exif metadata generation when possible
  • Detachable tripod foot with 1/4"-20 accessory thread for direct attachment to tripods or quick release plates that feature 1/4"-20 mounts

Viltrox EF-FX2 Reviews

Oh baby let's get weird with the bokeh!

If you want EF glass on your X mount camera then this will get the job done. However the bokeh does get a little swirly towards the edges and auto focus is a no. Personally I can and have been living with it but, to each their own.

I like it.

There is some vignetting when using this adapter, but I can live with it. It is well worth the money if you have a supply of full frame lenses for your Canon and want to use them on your M series camera.

Didn't work with X-T3 and Canon L Series Lenses

Bought this hoping to adapt some EF glass I had to my X-T3. It connected fine but auto focus didn't with and aperture control worked every other time. Viltrox customer service said that the lenses I had and the camera were on their compatibility list so it should've worked. Never got it to work. I returned it.

GREAT product, arrived quickly, worked as advertised (if not better) and i like the way it works on my Canon M6 mkii.

Good, not great. Worth the price though.

Depending on focal length, some corner softness and vignetting, which was expected and actually a bit better than I anticipated given the price. Focus, even with latest firmware and despite the setting, is fine for single shot situations, but tracking and video is pretty worthless. It does allow me to use full frame lenses on my APS-C bodies though and the color rendition and added bokeh are good, so for casual shooting or stationary video subjects, this is nice to have in the kit.

Buying my Viltrox Focal Reducer was my first B&H in-store experience. WOW! What a pleasure! Five stars! The Viltrox EF-EOS M2 itself: I wanted an adapting focal reducer to use quality vintage primes on my Canon M50. There are two main brand choices: Metabones (metal housing); Viltrox (plastic housing). For use with vintage glass, electronic connections are moot. I tried both products at the B&H counter and saw no difference between them, and I was not price sensitive. In subsequent video shoots, I have noticed no loss of sharpness or increase in noise when pixel peeping in Resolve. Both competitors are made in China. What chance is there that either Metabones or Viltrox own a glass factory? They are buying in the lens component, probably from the same supplier. Unless you require a metal housing (I do not), you will be completely satisfied with the Viltrox. I am.

I have a Canon eos M200, not an M50, but my auto-focus still and lens stabilization still work fine. I recommend going to the viltrox site, after you get yours, and downloading the firmware update.
