Distinguished by its bright design, the Nikon F-mount Tokina opera 16-28mm f/2.8 FF is a flexible wide-angle zoom well-suited to landscape, architectural, and astrophotography applications. The f/2.8 constant maximum aperture pairs with the broad field of view range to realize an ideal lens for working in available light conditions and for using shallow depth of field techniques. The optical design incorporates aspherical and low dispersion glass elements, which help to control distortion and color fringing throughout the zoom range in order to produce sharp, clear, and color-accurate imagery. A multi-coating has also been applied to individual elements in order to suppress flare and ghosting for improved contrast when working in bright and backlit conditions. Complementing the optical design is a sophisticated focusing system, which uses a DC motor, Silent Drive module, GMR magnetic sensor, and an internal focusing design in order to provide especially quiet and quick focusing performance to suit stills and video needs. A One-Touch Focus Clutch Mechanism also allows for fast switching between autofocus and manual focus settings. Additionally, this 16-28mm f/2.8 sports a nine-blade diaphragm to produce a pleasing bokeh quality and it has a built-in lens hood to shield the bulbous front element from stray light.

Tokina opera 16-28mm f/2.8 Reviews
Great alternative for a wide-mid lens
I use this lens for event photography and real-estate. Works great. It is more on the heavy side.
Excellent Results
Center sharpness excellent at all apertures and focal lengths. Extreme corners a bit soft until getting to f/5.6 from 16mm to about 22mm. From 24 to 28 very good to excellent corners from wide open on. Focus is quiet, maybe a bit noisier than my Canon L lenses. Autofocus is quick and accurate. This on my full frame 6D. This is a very large lens, so not a lightweight walking around lens. My main use for it is landscape photography from a tripod. Very happy with it.
Great lens for the price!
I wanted a wide angle lens mostly for a small architectural project I'd like to pursue (that was all the excuse I needed to buy!). This is on a D810. The physical lens quality seems to be solid. I'm used to fully sealed lenses so I will need to retrain myself when shooting in a wet environment. No problems so far, though. The focus is definitely slower than what I'm used to but I'm not sure the use case for a fast focus wide angle zoom lens is a wide one. Perfect for tripod-mounted wide angle shots of buildings, landscapes, etc. Shooting people handheld just requires a bit more verbal direction and consideration for the slower focus. I'd not worked with a lens whose focus is switched between manual and auto by pulling or pushing the lens barrel. That confused me for about 30 seconds when I knocked it into manual on accident. Just an fyi! The fact that this lens is nearly 1/3 the cost of the equivalent Nikon model made this a no brainer for me. For my limited use case and special project, it would have been silly to go the Nikon route. While I've not played a ton with it yet, I am noticing that it's not as sharp as some of my Nikon lenses. But, the photos it produces for me are still amazing! Overall, I'm thrilled with the purchase and would do it again! Seriously great value for the price.
Little on the heavy sight
I use it mainly for night sky photography. It's very sharp. Image attached.
Great lens for real estate photography
This lens has been paired to a Z6 camera with an FTZ adapter. My intended use is for commercial real estate pictures presentations. According to my testing on approximately 200 pictures taken - I am now satisfied that it is the right tool for the job. The picture distortion although present is not excessive, it allows one to take pictures in dark places due to its low light capabilities which turns out of good quality after post-processing.
Great Lens
Very happy with my Tokina Opera 16-28mm lens. My images have been sharp and clear and it's just what I needed to improve my images for Real Estate.
Does the job, good price point
Good image quality for a reasonable price. So far is reliable and delivers. I did get one which did not like my D750. Would hang on opening shutter / blades. Sent it back, second one works fine. Battery was going on first round, but camera worked fine with Nikkor lenses afterwards. Makes me think this one had a bit more impedance than the Nikkor in the aperture blades activation. Whether in the circuit, dirt or grease I cannot tell. Replacement works well.
Great ultra-wide angle lens for the price!
Great image quality for an affordable ultra-wide angle lens. Build quality is excellent too. It is pretty front-heavy, but what do you expect with such a large front element? It's nice to have F2.8 throughout the entire focal range, but I do wish it went up to 35mm. Bottom line: this is an affordable lens that I am glad I own and I would buy it again. P.S.: There are lots of good reviews of this lens on YouTube.
