Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 12-200mm f/3.5-6.3 Overview

A single-lens solution for most shooting situations, the M.Zuiko Digital ED 12-200mm f/3.5-6.3 from Olympus is designed for Micro Four Thirds mirrorless cameras and covers a huge 24-400mm equivalent focal length range. Additionally, this lens utilizes a Movie & Stills Compatible AF system to achieve smooth, fast, and near-silent focusing performance to benefit both photo and movie applications.

Spanning an impressive wide-angle to super telephoto range, this 12-200mm zoom is designed for Micro Four Thirds mirrorless cameras and provides a 24-400mm equivalent focal length range.
Three aspherical elements, one Super HR (high refractive index) elements, and two HR elements are featured in the optical design to limit spherical aberrations for improved sharpness with reduced distortion. Additionally, two Super ED (extra-low dispersion) elements and two ED elements are also used to control chromatic aberrations and color fringing for greater clarity and color fidelity.
A ZERO (Zuiko Extra-Low Reflection Optical) coating has been applied to individual elements to minimize lens flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color fidelity when working in strong lighting conditions.
Movie & Still Compatible (MSC) autofocus system benefits both photo and video applications due to its smooth, quiet, and fast performance.
Minimum focusing distance of 8.7" at the wide-angle end, and a 3.9" working distance, offers a 0.46x maximum magnification to suit working with close-up subjects.
Weather-sealed construction guards the lens against dust and moisture for working in harsh environments.
Rounded seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality.

The older 14-150mm walkaround lens was f/4-5.6. How limiting is the f/6.3 on this lens. What kinds of lower light would work with it before handheld blur occurs?
Asked by: Robyn
The difference between f/5.6 and f/6.3 is only about 1/4 stop. At 150mm, this lens would likely be very close to f/5.6. So you are getting an extra 50mm (100mm, full-frame equivalent) of reach for only about a 1/4 stop "penalty". That seems perfectly reasonable to me. Depending on your camera, most newer M43 cameras can take reasonably clean up to ISO 3200 or 6400 (at least for hobbyists, for whom this lens is really intended). That range is hard to beat and any decent post software should be able to clean up most objectionable noise. Indoors, you will probably, rarely, be taking pics over 50mm, so your wide-open f-stop will likely be around f/4.0, which, with IBIS, should be plenty good. This lens is really for walking around and wildlife photography. There are longer lenses that are cheaper, but with nowhere near this range (e.g. the Panasonic 100-300mm (200-600mm full-frame equivalent) for ~$500). Don't forget, that this is a 24-400mm full-frame equivalent lens for under $1K! If you need a professional-level lens with a pretty good range, then look at the Olympus 12-100mm Pro f/4 lens. Good luck!

Can i use this lens with MFT Active Lock mount on a ZCam S6 Super 35mm Cinema Camera?
Asked by: Karl
Yes, this will work with any MFT mount camera. However it will only cover an MFT sized sensor, you will need to shoot on a cropped mode with the ZCam S6 in this case.
