Continuing FUJIFILM's series of compact, portable primes, the silver XF 16mm f/2.8 R WR is a 24mm-equivalent wide-angle lens, well-suited to landscape, nature, and architectural shooting. Its f/2.8 maximum aperture balances size and speed, and is suitable for working in available lighting conditions while also limiting the overall size and weight of the lens for everyday use. The optical design features two aspherical elements to reduce distortion and spherical aberrations in order to produce greater sharpness and accurate rendering. A Super EBC coating is also used to control flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color fidelity when working in bright and backlit conditions. Complementing the optics is a stepping motor, along with an internal focusing design, which provides quick and especially quiet focusing performance. Additionally, the lens is weather-sealed to suit working in inclement conditions.

Continuing FUJIFILM's series of compact, portable primes, the silver XF 16mm f/2.8 R WR is a 24mm-equivalent wide-angle lens, well-suited to landscape, nature, and architectural shooting. Its f/2.8 maximum aperture balances size and speed, and is suitable for working in available lighting conditions while also limiting the overall size and weight of the lens for everyday use. The optical design features two aspherical elements to reduce distortion and spherical aberrations in order to produce greater sharpness and accurate rendering. A Super EBC coating is also used to control flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color fidelity when working in bright and backlit conditions. Complementing the optics is a stepping motor, along with an internal focusing design, which provides quick and especially quiet focusing performance. Additionally, the lens is weather-sealed to suit working in inclement conditions.

Nice and Versatile Wide Angle for X-E4

This lens both looks and feels great on my X-E4 body. Autofocus is very silent and fast, making it perfect for taking quick snapshots during travel. The short focal length together with the minimum aperture at 1/22 makes handheld slow-shutter photography possible even without any stabilization or ND filter. When I bring it as the only lens during trips it has proven versatile enough for landscape, food, interior, and environmental portraits. I highly recommend this lens for users who prefer portability.

Perfect little travel lens. Part of the reason I love Fujifilm is their selection of small, lightweight cameras and lenses. And this a great little wide-angle lens that takes up little space in the camera bag and will fit in a pocket.

It does everything well. It is perfect for street shooting or landscapes but it works fine for portraits if you zoom with your feet. Typical fine Fuji quality

There are a lot of weird videos online saying this lens isn't sharp in the corners etc. I think they're a bit misguided. This is a small, fun lens with weather sealing. There's nothing within the same price range with the same features. The cheap third party options are MF and lack weather sealing. The 1.4 version is larger and more than twice the price. I'm happy with my purchase.

I was in between this lens and the f1.4. Of course, I didn't want to spend more money to have the f1.4 version so I got this one instead, it is small and compact, weather-resistant which worked perfectly while shooting in the pouring rain. quality is amazing and focus is fast. This is my favorite lens paired with the x-e4 or the Xpro3

Does the lens hood allow for the use of a circular polarizer? Photos appear like it wouldn't.

Yes, you can use a polarizer with the hood but it may be difficult to rotate the filter with the hood on. I would recommend taking the hood off for easy rotation.

How does sharpness compare to the 16mm 1.4? How does that lens stopped down to f/2.8 compare to this wide open?

While I personally believe the optical quality of the FUJIFILM XF 16mm f/1.4 R WR Lens would be superior compared to the FUJIFILM XF 16mm f/2.8 R WR Lens, I have not seen any comprehensive testing of the two lenses side-by-side comparing the sharpness of the different apertures you mention above. That being said, from my brief usage with the FUJIFILM XF 16mm f/2.8 R WR Lens, I think it has great optical performance and as a great option for the price compared to the 16mm f/1.4 lens. However, do note that you may purchase the lens, and if you test it and it does not work for your planned usage needs, you would have 30 days from the original purchase date to return the lens for an exchange or refund.
